"92 R100GS fork and oil cooler mods

Hello all, I understand this is the spot for answers for my "92 GS.
First off, my bike has that nice little quarter fairing with the legs that come back adjacent to the tank. On the front face of each leg is a small flat area about the size of those ****y oil coolers they put on some early Oil head "R" models.
Would it not work to remove that large oil cooler and split up the work? I have seen a mod where the cooler is located just below the the steering head.
Second point is improving performance of the MArzocchi forks by whatever means. I have heard of complete inserts and the installations of emulators.
I ride this bike off road on some rather rough terrain and would like to improve the dive and bottoming.
An thoughts on these issues would be most appreciated.

Both ends need doing - you want a Ohlins with a 80 KG spring and the Magnum fork inserts complete with springs from HPN , or from a BMW dealer.

PN 31 42 2 317 539 one side, and 540 the other.

Dont know about alternative oil coolers, but the OEM can be relocated easily, BMW Boxer Parts in Holland have the bits for a bit less than most.

Fork oil

Hi

I have a 1989 R100GS which I believe has the same front forks as yours. I changed to the custom fork oil mixture specified here http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179668 which I believe is known as "The Millichap cocktail" last weekend.

I found a significant improvement in handling and reduction in diving, however the ride is firmer than I am used to.

The formula is 410mL of SAE16.25 oil in the left fork leg and 440mL of SAE15 oil in the right fork leg. (These volumes become 470 mL in each leg if you completely dissassemble the forks). I mixed mine up from SAE 10W and SAE20 oil as I had the 10W oil in the garage, but if buying new oil use SAE15 and SAE20.
