Hi all,

Recently pressure washed my bike, to identify an oil leak - it was the oil pressure switch.

Right after that, bike was running ok, took a short ride and everything was normal. The day after that, it only runned for 50 meteres, then stopped :|

Checked for error codes, and nothing appears (have done this other times, it should say 0000 or 4444 for ok status, but this time, the LED stays lit, does not blink). I have checked HES, they are ok, I am sure of that. Fuel pump is ok, I can hear it when ignition on, and can smell gas coming from the exhaust when trying to start, so I think this means injectors are ok too.

Today I checked the spark plugs, and I have no spark! both sides. Next step was the coil, and that one is ok - it measures 1 ohm for primary coil and 13kohms for secondary coil - does that sound ok to you?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan.

is the rid unit working ie, side stand switch cut the ignition, also is the fuel pump running up with ignition

if it would be the side stand sw, the engine would not be spinning, right?

gonna try the TPS de-watering and come back with results.

Thanks!

Turns out there is no spark on the spark plugs when trying to start;
Battery voltage drops to 9,2V when engine is spinning. Could that be a reason for not starting?

Resistance: Primary Ω ~0.5
between terminals 15 and 1
Secondary kΩ ~7.5 when cold
between terminals 4a and 4b
is the coil specs for a 1150 and i believe the 1000 is the same coil

Does that reset the clock on the RID?

I had a bad enough battery and starter that the clock would reset, yet the engine started first time every time.

can anyone help me and tell me the Bosch part code for this coil?

I want the code for this one, not the other model, after 97'

Thanks

I think the coil is the issue, will confirm tommorrow with a RT donor coil; but I am thinking of buying from local Bosch store, rather than BMW, so that is why I am looking for Bosch part code, as BMW code I already have.

Turns out to be the bad coil; it started right away with the RT coil...
Bosch coils are more expensive than local BMW dealer coils. :augie

I've heard that primary widings do not fail as often as secondary widings in a coil, but it's the primary on mine that failed; it reads 1,1 ohms, instead of 0,5 like the manual says.

When the new one arrives, I am going to use heat shrink tubing on the connector.

:(

Replaced the coil with a new one and the bike ran just fine for a couple of miles. Then I stopped it and it won't start again! Checked for spark, it is strong and blue, the injectors are spraying enaugh fuel. I am thinking now the gas is the fault, just refueld after installing the new coil.

I cand hear backfires in the exhaust from time to time when trying to start, but not to powerfull; does this sound like a gas problem? like with water in it? or maybe some diesel fuel instead of gas?

Thanks!

Maybe there is still an electrical fault and just the fact that you fitted a new coil made something work again and with the bike running it dislodged again?

Sorry not very helpful.....

Hall sensor got wet perhaps?

I am going to open it up in the weekend and check the HES again... :(

I think I am going to sell it, cause it gives me more trouble instead of pleasure of riding the damn thing, and the cost is not to low... My previous DR650 had no problems at all, but this bike is nothing but trouble... I am not going to recommend anyone to buy a boxer anymore!

Dan.
