990 first time for me

i am allso looking at a very nice 950 carb model quite cheap

id go for the 950 everytime much better to ride,see if its had the fuel pump upgraded,under the bike as opposed to being in the tank like the 990,also waterpump and clutch slave cylinder weak points on the 950,oberon is the best fix for the clutch,waterpump fix is cheap and fuel pump easy job and well worth the time..
