Time for a 100PD rebuild

Fitted already! How long does it take you to shim a box??

about 20 minutes. Its really easy to do. I'd already fitted the gearbox internals so just a case of measuring the clearances and the bearing depths of the new housing and then fitting the end cover. Probably an hour for the work tonight and fitting the gearbox.

Still impressivly quick, I suspect the fact that you have probably done a couple of thousand or so of them helps! I am working my way up to refurbing my G/S at some point and this is on the cards for me, cant imagine it taking less than a day what with the way I twat about.

To be honest the shimming is the nice part. Its quite therapeutic sitting down with a coffee and a nice clean gearbox to work through the shimming.

There is a good half days work to strip the box, degrease everything, fit new bearings and then put it back together again. You could do it quicker if you want to put yourself against the clock but I'd sooner take my time.

A bit more done tonight. For some reason I've lost the gearbox gator clamp :blast

Hmm looks like I might be getting into my box rather sooner than I was expecting:( - did my usual 3k oil service today and out with the gearbox oil came a small number of what looked initialy like fingernail clippings but in closer inspection were (of course) metallic shavings/shards/shrapnel that looked fractured on one side and shiney on the other - presuambly parts of a bearing track, probably an inner one due to their small circumferential shape. As it happens I did notice yesterday the odd surprise "donk" on ahem brisk acceleration which prompted me to do the service. Bugger fuck bollocks.

Dont do private gearbox rebuilds do you? :D

Im liking the rebuild/progress BTW.:thumb2

Mikeyboy is your man!
Believe Voyager does them as well?

Silencer issues now. Somethings loose in the system so it's being posted off to keihin to see how they're 10 year guarantee stands up.

I've spent £550 on the exhaust system so far. Probably going to come in around £2500 for the complete rebuild by the time it's done.

Sorry to hear about the gearbox woes.... but the bike looks great,
Keep updating us

One of the parts that lets bike restos down is scruffy switchgear.

New switches fitted today

Electrics back on and harness refitted. The original loom wiring is in good condition but the original fabric wrap was rotten and messy so I've spent the afternoon stripping it off and rewrapping - time consuming but very satisfying

The original rear mudguard had suffered with the heat from the keihin silencer. I've fitted an original stainless bmw silencer because I prefer the sound.

I had a really good condition red mudguard laying about. Amazing the difference it makes when your used to a white one

Great job... I love this stuff.

Nice single seat and a rack behind it to make it perfecto !

I've got switch gear envy now... :tears

I had a single seat on a previous gs. I never found it to be very comfortable and there wasn't much room to move about
