A few GS questions

Hi. Want to buy a GS and was after some friendly advice.

Can anybody tell me what year the Twin spark was introduced to the R1150GS and whether it is worth holding out for a twin spark instead of a single sparker.

Plus any other general buy/don't buy advice would be appreciated.

If you are thinking of moving on to the 1200 and have a 1150GS for sale then please let me know

Specs desired are ABS, Heated Grips, Panniers preferable, blue and white if possible and less than 15K miles.

ABS or not ABS

Just in case you haven't tested an ABS version then I heartily recommend you do. Personally I couldn't get on with it. Nothing seems to happen for a while then yikes it feels like an anchors hit the floor - and the constant servo noise around town drove me mad.

As for colour, whilst the general consensus is that the black one is fastest, I can personally attest to the blue and white one being lighter than the others, they say that yellow goes round corners better and 'graphitan' is known to send its rider to sleep.

Twin Spark

I have a Blue & White for sale with ABS, system panniers, heated grips BUT 21000 on the clock. '51 registration December '01. A few cosmetic add ons from the Touratech/Wunderlich ranges, Y piece with standard end can.

Twin spark? Nope. The twin spark bit is an emissions add on and not a high speed performance enhancer (so I was told before some clever t*sser GSer gets on their orange box).

Twin sparks on the 1150GS

I think they were on the 2003 model - they were not on my 2002 model. They were, I believe intended to cure low speed surging but whatever difference they made I don't know because I did not have any problems anyway. It was a fantastic bike and I was very pleased with it but when the 1200 came out I could afford to change!!!! Mine was the blue and white special paintwork which looked very smart. The 1200 IS much better but obviously much more expensive. Good luck;

Why such a premium on low mileage ? Dealer tactics may indicate differently but these bikes are made for riding and mileage is not such an issue.

I have to agree with Dabba, when i test rode the GS12 for the first time having only been on sports bikes for many years, the ABS gave a real delay feeling when applying the brakes. I have since taken delivery of my new GS without ABS and very happy with the feel from the brakes.(plus saved a stack of cash!!!)
