six pack

Hello,
At the moment I have a vfr750fv in blue which I've had for 3 years now. I feel it's now time to move on so I went in and test drove the k1200s and the r1200gs on Monday. I got back to back test rides from John Clark in Aberdeen and I have to say the treated me very well. There were no problems taking the bikes for as long as I wanted and they supplied the coffee each time I came back. They also had no problems with me taking the wife with me each time. Anyway down to the tests I took the sports bike out first and I was very impressed the power and the handling were perfect. I took it out to Banchory and back and the weather was really bad and the roads were mostly covered in mud. I still couldn't believe how confidence inspiring it was. The only issue we did have was that the wife was sliding about all over the place. I then sat on the GS and could hardly touch the ground. Getting the wife on the back was very scary holding the bike up on tip toes is not good. I started the bike up and immediately thought there was something wrong it sounded so ruff. He did give me some advice on driving a twin but the first couple of miles were terrible but then I'm sorry to say I fell in love. Every time I looked down I still had another few gears left the only gears it seems to need is 3rd and 4th. The riding position was perfect and oh my god the heated grips how have I lived without them. My mind was made up until today when the wife said that she thinks she would be bored on the back of the gs as its too comfy and needs less input from her. So my question is how do I persuade her that that the gs is the best option? Sorry to go on but I want that bike so much it hurts.
My apologies for spelling and grammar.
Cheers,

Wait til she experiences the twisties. She'll be laughing and pointing as you pass sports bikes on the outside before heading of up a dirt track and then onto Italy via the Alps :thumb
Boring? A GS? I think not ;) Sport bikes are boring, all that being limited to tarmac with all the hoypaloy :eek

Six - welcome to the house of fun.

Worry not about spelling and grammar, most of the inmates here still struggle with tautology and the past participative tense, so a bit of northern dialect won't go amiss.

Regarding Mrs Pack - perhaps another ride-out, but this time on some smaller lanes?

In case you hadn't picked up on it - the standard seat is adjustable to two heights.

May I make a suggestion. Get the GS and trade in the wife :D

Stick some scouring pads down her knickers, that'll liven up her ride :D

I think thats what I'm going to do hopefully she will fall in love like I did.

First off that would be admitting I'm short but I'm sure I must be over 6' :nenau
Secondly would that not mean the passenger would sit even higher above me or does the whole seat go down a bit?

Only the front bit adjusts. It's not a lot - I think it's 20 mm.

I'm 6ft and have the seat on the lower setting.

Also; on the right hand side there is a preload adjuster for the rear shock. If this is set to "Max" then this will keep the back of the bike higher.

Just buy it and tell her afterwards. It is sometimes easier to say sorry than ask for permission.

Wonder why I am still single?

Wife on the pillion

I agree that it is not too easy for the average height lady to climb on - or perhaps I should say climb up! But my wife really enjoys being on the back and I have been 'forced' to buy a top box to provide more comfort and eliminate the possibility of her sliding off the back as I demonstrate the 0 - 60 figures. I am just over 6' and can get my two feet flat on the ground but instructions are clear - she does not start to climb aboard until the engine is running, we are pointing in the right direction, and a nod from me to indicate that I am ready. And another drill for when we come to rest.
It is a marvellous bike and if you find the seat height is a major problem you can specify a lower seat (820mm) but here in France that is an option - i.e. you pay extra for it - I would suspect that after a short while you would have no difficulty with the standard seat (840 - 860) and would have wasted your money; I always wear a solid pair of boots and that of course gives you a bit extra.

Dear 6..firstly why have a six pack when u can have a barrel ! ?

as above, show her some twistys (sic) show her some mountains, show her this web page, show her the future.......it aint jap!
Then buy her a drink!
U know it makes sense.........

Bilks.

lucky bastard

Consider yourself a lucky bastard to be able to take your wife to the dealer and get her involved in your motorcycle choices.

Most of us here have to feed our habit in secret , like regular junkies.

Welcome to the BMW world. Life on two-wheel will never be the same again.

I think I saw a film clip (on this site) of someone on a 1150GS riding in a way she would not find boring at all. Does anybody remember the link is?

Do a search for 'on bike video' I think it was Paul G's footage of the mountain course at the TT. Very good, and should do the trick I would think :thumb

I had a look at the 23mb video and that is very impressive. :bow

I went into speak to John Clarks again today to arrange another test ride but there were no bike salesmen in. :nenau I'm going to try and get a test on one fitted with the lower seat.
I know I will buy one I have managed to convince her that I will use it a lot more than I do the VFR.
Driving the two bmws have shown me how hard it is to throw the vfr about. I think it's down to the worn shock and forks as it's done 32000 miles on the original parts.
Cheers for all the help
