A new project looms

The street scramblers look a bit "gutted" to me, like a half finished project.

I agree completely. Kevil has built a nice one though that actually looks like it's finished well http://thebikeshed.cc/2012/05/18/kevils-sparky-beemer/ No use at all for normal riding though without a proper rear mudguard.

soms early pics of my R80 project...

sort of going in a street scrambler / 70s supermoto direction. Not sure if I'll be able to pull off the trophy style twin high level silencers option, but we'll see...

bottom end is completely rebuilt now, have shortened the subframe (see lower pic) and obtained a wirespoke rear wheel. If any one has a spare wirespoke front that will go with Ate calipers, I have cash waiting :D

I'll have a look in my stash for a front Wire for your front end. I've got at least three for the later Brembo front ends but as these are getting almost impossible to find I'll be hanging onto them.

ok - clearly you have no taste. The btm pic looks half-arsed and you tried that before - didn't work too well.
The top pic looks far too busy and cluttered - high pipes are ok though.

:augie

:Were talking about the comedy seat from hell aren't we. Didn't work out to well that one...Still if you don't try you'll never know what works or not :D

I sent him the picture below as an example of what I wanted

Close but no cigar :blast

The scrambler look is ok, but I can't help thinking they'd be arse to ride over a distance.

Still like the Kohl best. Even with a swung rear arm I think you could get pretty close and not huge money (just your time and experience).

I hate to say it, but if you can (without screwing up the cooling) I'd paint the engine black and save a load of hassle when it comes to cleaning time :D).

Yeah, I have to agree :)

A lot of the other bikes pictured have elements to them that look good but the Kohl Bobber just hangs together so well and the rear end is just beautiful :drool

A leetle bit of ingenuity and I reckon you could get the look without hardtailing the frame.

FWIW one thing that always works for me is having a nice empty space where the side panels would be by relocating the battery. It accentuates the fact that there is just an engine with wheels and, well, just works for me :thumb2

I'm waiting for a price for engineering a similar back end. Just out of interest of course ;)

I must be the only one that doesn't like the kohl bike then. :nenau

and if you try to mimic it with a swing arm frame it'll look even worse, i reckon.

Its just that i'm a bit over cafe racers and bobbers of any description.

Street scramblers are doing it for me at the moment.

....and i'm always right ;)

It's just food for thought at the minute Phil. I've had a price for making a hardtail subframe and seat - £350 which seems very reasonable. Gav's an ex spondon frame builder and does some beautiful work so he knows what he's doing http://www.giaengineering.co.uk/

a hardtail ?!

at your age ?

let me know how that goes :)

Maybe he doesnt need a soft seat!

Maybe it is just a statement about his ,err, sexual preference - I always have doubts about our transatlantic friends who seen to need a specially shaped and softened saddle.

And the Kohl does nothing for me either- it simply form over function, although I have the same type of handlebars on my G/S and they work OK - at 960mm wide they make picking it up a lot easier if I put it the ditch!
