A trip to the dealers leaves me torn

I saw the title and thought it was something else - along the lines of being bent over the service counter and given a rather large bill :D

still..........that'll come with time

Thanks for the answers folks, its' good to hear from so many people who don't really miss the performance.

Now does anyone wanna buy a Tuono? They're a great alternative to your GS :D

Ozzeh, once you're sorted check out the planned events for next year :)

A good spread of weekends away where you'll meet a bunch of like minded tossers and compare notes :thumb

Good luck with the sale of the Aprilia

If you become a site sponsor ( click Here ) you'd be able to advertise the Tuono in For sale and wanted.... you never know.. someone may be after a second toy....

Bryn :beerjug:

Thanks Bryn,

I'll probably become a sponsor as the site seems to be filled with very helpful people indeed.

AARGH! Everybody is trying to force me to buy a new bike...

Just phoned up my ins co to query the insurance cost and not only is the GS half the price of the 'Prilly to insure, but they'll give me a refund of over £100 for the rest of the year!

Bloody hell fire.

Just remember, you'll be needing that cheque for all the touratech parts that suddenly become a good idea once you've bought one.

I came to the GS after 5 years ownership of a Blackbird. Never really missed the power / speed of the Blackbird since owning the GS.

Hopefully I'll pick up a used one that some kind soul has already gone to the trouble of speccing up for me :)

If you can afford to hold off selling The Tuono until the spring AND buy the GS now is a good time to buy second hand.

I bought my 1200 with all the goodies (panniers, satnav, comms, big screen, GPS) this time last year for less that the dealer was looking for a base bike at the same age.

The tough bit is being patient enough.

Have any of you lot come over from sportsbikes and been happy with the GS long term? Do you miss your sportsbikes at all?

I toured pretty extensively on my GSXR. But I prefer to be able to carry a bit more and go further in comfort.

Had a V-Strom for two-and-a-half years ... the only thing I missed was the eye-popping, arm wrenching acceleration ... speed was never the thing for me.

Adjusting to my new GS at the moment ... in the knowledge that it will deliver everything I want from a motorcycle, and more probably.

Had a Fireblade, which I loved, but kept getting scared silly especially on the A1 near Peterborough - 4 lanes of motorway :augie everything seemed to be going in reverse gear!

But started to feel discomfort from the riding position after about a hour which gradually got to something like after 20 minutes riding. Finally decided it had to go whilst getting my knee down on a round-about and got cramp in my other leg - how I managed to stay on I do not know.

Got a 1150 (the fast Blue/White colours) AND black engine :thumb2. and fallen in love with biking all over again. Rode to Dusseldorf and back completely pain-less with all the luggage I needed - the 'Blade could not have done that. Planning a ride to Austria/Switzerland next summer something I would not even think about if I still had the other bike.

Like others have said NOW is the right time to buy but selling/part ex could be difficult - but trust me - it's gonna be worth it.

I wish I could afford to buy the GS now and leave the sale of the T until the spring because I know that you're right and I'll get the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, that's not viable.

I don't mind (too much) waiting till March time to do the deal. Who knows, there might be a glut of used bikes on the market as people trade up?down? to the 800GS :)

Here's something to consider coming from a tuono........
I've just bought a 1150 GSA and am selling my 1100. The GSA is standard but the 1100 has a 10mm raised rear shock. Riding them back to back there is a huge difference. the 1100 feels so much more nimble and quick steering compared to the GSA. In fact I'm going to raise the rear on the GSA too :)
not saying buy my 1100 but altering the shock length might give you livelier handling with gs comfort and tourability:)

I'm mostly worried about missing the acceleration rather than the handling. Well, that and the wheelies. :D

Most of the time I commute on it and lively handling isn't as important as comfort and a clear view of the road... And arm wrenching acceleration of course ;)

Hi there Ozzeh, I came into the wonderful world of GS`s from 5 years on a ZZR1100, can honestly say that I don`t miss the power, the :D that my 1200GS puts on my face every time I take her for a spin is wide, they really are bloody good fun.

Just out of curiosity are you the Arillia Tuono rider that passes me in my tin box on the A1073 towards Crowland at about 4.30/5.00pm while I`m on my way to work in Spalding, if so it sounds bloody gorgous. :thumb

I've bought myself a number plate as a Christmas present, I just need a new bike to put it on.... an 08 1200GSA is what I would really like.

maybe

but you need to be a site sponsor, but you can say if it`s the gold framed new type or the older black framed bike..

I had TL1000s Suzukis, ZZR1100, and a Blackbird.......

the V-twins were ace and the Blackbird ....totally arse.....

then had 2 x 1100 GS's and now got a 1200 GS.....

even on the 1100 could out handle sportsbikes pretty much most of the time....

low centre of gravity and high straight bars was usually enough to re position myself mid corner outside of said blade/gixer/zx/etc....

as has been said... especially in the worsening road conditions the GS will still shine....as my 1200 GS did on Bodmin Moor the other night in the driving wind and rain......!

So.....miss sportsbikes....nah....just laugh at them when you look at the rear tyre of an R1 and see the chicken strips...!!

and the 'must have' latest Power Ranger suit......

by a GS ....and start having some fun....!!

but you need to be a site sponsor, but you can say if it`s the gold framed new type or the older black framed bike..

hehe it's the gold framed new style. In fact the thing is 6 months old and has only done 3K miles...

Perhaps I should sponsor up and plonk an advert on here! :)

Nope, that's not me. I am generally found floating up and down the A10 north of Cambridge.

Just read your post, i am also torn about buying a GSA, and would i miss my sports bike, thinking of super blackbird or sim! but my heart still leans towards the GSA, i rode the 07 at end of last yr, i will test ride with my wife to see if it is fast enough 2up!

Can someone tell me what the service intervals are? is it every 6000 miles?
and what sort of money are we talking about for servicing?

Many:thumb2 thanks
Hello folks,

I made the mistake of going to my not-so-local BMW dealer today to have a quick look around a GS. I've been hankering after the idea for a few years now and having knackered my knee in it's becoming more appealing than ever.

Unfortunately he let me have a test ride and after about 40 minutes in the saddle I pottered back happy in the knowledge that it was bloody marvellous... Something I'm sure you will all agree with.

Anyway, the reason I'm torn is that my current steed, an Aprilia Tuono Factory is also really good fun and if it wasn't for my knee I wouldn't be looking into a swap at all. I'm worried that the GS will become a little boring over time.

I'm sure that the GS is a better bike for me most of the time as I ride all year round and the practicality of the GS is definitely a winner in the winter. I guess I'm just worried that come the summer I'll wish I was back on my noisy little 'prilly.

Have any of you lot come over from sportsbikes and been happy with the GS long term? Do you miss your sportsbikes at all?

And whilst I'm here, can someone point me towards a dealer willing to give excellent PX prices and massive discounts? :)

Thanks in advance!
