After discussing this with Rab last night, I went up to Tom's Byre (a cabinet maker) in Falkland, Fife and saw what he had on display and told him what our plans were. His workmanship seems really good to me (although I'm certainly no joiner). I had a couple of photos of benches I'd printed off the PC.

I've now ordered a table similar to this

oxford_8.jpg

It'll be hand made by Tom in redwood and will cost "around £250" which seems a good deal because similar tables on the t'internet are about £100 dearer than that. The final cost will depend on how much the redwood costs.

I hope that's OK wi' everyone involved in this wee venture. I reckoned on the bench being that wee bit more personal being specially made for us as opposed to just buying one off the net.

Shep has also given us the :thumb for a plaque which will be attached to the table.

Tom the Joiner just phoned me. He can't get redwood or a hardwood within the time scale we wanted. The woods he can get this done with just now would require someone to go up to the hall every 2 years and paint the bench. It's not ideal, given how remote the place is. It would be unfair to expect the likes of Gerry or Doyle who live nearby(ish) to take this task up on our behalf. We need something that can be put there and left without the worry of it becoming tatty or requiring maintainance.

I'm just off the phone with Rab. He's got a scource for a hardwood A-shaped picnic table and bench (of the type we originally thought about) so we'll go with that :thumb

I'm certainly happy to undertake painting, but I can see a possibility; an annual get together for inspection, and a biannual get together get together for inspection and maintenance. I can provide brushes and preservyshite.

Thanks but being a lazy fecker I'd rather opt for the annual get together just to sit on it and hae a drink :beerjug:

:D

We've got one in redwood that will need only limited maintainance. Thanks for your offer though...

Here she is

Me and Rab have decided to make tomorrow (Wed) at 10:00 hrs the cut off time for putting yer name forward to contribute. We'll divvy up the total cost of the bench and engraved plaque by the amount of names on the list and hey presto!...everyone will know how much their contribution will be. Seemples.

Thereafter, anyone who's done "Blackloonies" before and belatedly wants "in" to the bench venture will be directed to Gert's Just Giving account and asked to donate the same amount into there.

Seems fair enough to us and easily managed. Rab has paid for the bench. I'll collect the monies and forward to him.

I'll PM everyone in due course to give my address for cheques to be sent to. No Paypal accepted I'm afraid.

Thanks again for your support in getting this up and running :beerjug:

Been off the net and just noticed this thread. Any chance of a late entry onto the list. Having met Gert on a few occasions including the last soiree at lunans, I would definately like to contribute. Of course if there is room put me down to attend next March/Feb.
Good effort by those guys doing the organising:clap
