Having recently converted to a 57 plate 1200 from an 1150Adv I was a little frustrated this week to see the Brake Fail light on.

Recently the braking performance has been very "pulsing" which I've put down to warping and put on the mental list for 2014 jobs, but this week riding with the fail light on all of the pulsing syndromes have gone away and I've got smooth braking to a halt, all be it without abs.

So I'm thinking that the pulsing could have been an early sign of abs problems - anyone had this?

I've searched the sites and know that I need to check bulb &holder, sensors etc to see if I can clear the fault. But I'm wondering if the abs unit was actually playing up before and I just put it down to discs?

Pulsating braking

Clem,
I had exactly the same with a Tiger a few years ago. I had the discs checked for warp and they were fine. Did my head in trying to work out what it was. In the end a mate told me to clean the discs properly and the pads. I did this and it was ok. It seems that id picked up some heavy oil or chemical when id been riding which had penetrated into the pads which was causing the pads to grip and then not as i was braking. :thumb2

Alloy wheels/hubs can corrode beneath the paint behind the disk mounting lugs causing disk runout. Check with a dial gauge.
