Hi first post I have a 54plate r1200gs that I have owned bike since it was six months old. It has 15k miles on the clock and has a fault with the abs modulator. The servo brakes worked fine but showed up an intermitant fault with the dreaded brake failure symbol on the dash after about 30mins. After having diagnostics codes read it was saying that brakes had low pressure on rear circuit.Had brakes bled by RGM at Croston which worked for a while but now fault appears all time.Rear brake now seems weak and I cant hear usual whine from servo when rear brake pressed. I have no problem with RGM and did a great job on the clutch and rear end oil seal but Roy suggests that the only fix is a new unit at £1300 and £500 to fit. Im sure this is reasonable and better than the dealer price but it basically it puts into doubt owning an older R1200GS when bills like this roll in.I sold my Triumph Sprint which was a 1996 to buy BMW and thats still on the road with alot more mileage and costs buttons to fix. Like I said i have no issues with RGM who's service is great. I love the BMW every time I ride out but the MOT is due and I have a great big red symbol on the dash. What next?

Welcome to the club. Same thing happened to mine and Roy helped me out no end-you are in good hands.

Life is like that sometimes - would get it fixed and just ride it. 15k isn't even broken in.

Have you done some searches on here? Quite a few posts detailing similar problems, some with very simple fixes - cleaning contacts of the brake light for one, ISTR...

This was posted on the 911 Google Group. Might be of interest -

hi all,
i'm new around and just wanted to ask some questions to other more
experienced members here regarding BMW ABS.
i have now an out warranty R1200Gs adventure with "BRAKE FAILURE" warning
turned solid on with 24048 and 24049 fault codes
checked ABS status with GS-911 with ver BETA 1201.5.
results image attached below.

if i slightly tap the ABS module with a rubber mallet 2 - 3 times, the pump
motor voltage will slowly drops to zero and
BRAKE FAILURE" warning will start to blink and fault codes gone.
road test it, blinking lamp goes off and ABS operates perfectly for about
half kilometer then turns on solid again.
hook up GS-911 again and same results as before.
obviously, it is an ABS module issue and i am still hoping that this is not
one of the $2000+ repair. :(
maybe some experienced members here has some cheaper remedy?

thanks much!!!

And the following was the result -

hi all,

A friend "Yut" from "DYNAMIC MOTORS" emailed me with the remedy of this
problem.
and now ABS working properly!!!
attached are the images he showed me.
it was the pump motor's brush sticking on its housing.
that is why it returns back to normal every time i rubber mallet the module.
i manage to open up the module and free the brush housing.
thanks to him, i have not spent even a cent!!!

i hope this would help others too.

A mate of mine has exactly the same problem.Steptoe from this forum is removing the whole system on tuesday for £200.
