The story so far. 2017 R1200 GS Rallye 10,000 miles non TFT screen. Out for a ride at the weekend and the ABS light and the yellow triangle come on solid on the dash, speedo still working.
Pull over and the bike will not switch off using the keyless ignition, have to use the kill switch. pressed the keyless ignition for about 3 seconds and everything switched off. Pressed the keyless ignition to switch everything back on and the speedo needle swings around and resets, ABS and yellow triangle are still solid, trip 1 & 2 are showing zero as is MPG. Pull away and speedo is not working, neither is trip, MPG, cruise control, hill assist and rear brake light is on as if I am braking.
Got home and replaced the rear speed sensor and the front ABS sensor, no change. Ran a system diagnostic and the GS911 threw up various codes which I reset, but it was showing that it could not communicate with the ABS module. Every other code was related to not seeing the ABS module on the Can-Bus.. in the middle of stripping of the plastics and pulling the tank off to check the wiring but my fear is the ABS Modulator is knackered. My questions to you guys are as follows.
1. Why cant the ABS module be refurbished as I have asked a lot of companies, as as soon as you tell them the part number it is a nooooooo.
2. Why are the ABS modules available second hand on Ebay if you can not code them to you bike, this came from Motorrad, is this true?.
3. Why are the ABS modules so expensive new, BMW must be laughing at us.
4. Why have there been 7 part numbers for the same product been produced by BMW, do they know they have a major failing component?.
Any help on where I go next would be welcome as I do not want to spend £1800 , great bike but if this is an indication of the reliability, it will get repaired and sold.
