Abs wheel ring removal

When I did mine I just removed the ABS rings front and rear without putting any spacers in because the brake pads will self centre. I did also remove the wheel spacing shim at the back wheel. 15k miles later and no problems.

One thing I also did to tidy things up was to remove the front and rear ABS sensors, put them in the lathe and face them off. Once refitted they looked pretty neat.View attachment 356220View attachment 356221

The back one looks really neat but the front one is unnecessary as non abs bikes just had the empty void and the loop

The reason for the stop discs is to stop the wear of the rotor mount pillars If you look at the bobbins the contact directly with the rotor mount and there is actually not much extra area of the alloy The stop disc is invisible when fitted and is just a 1mm thick stainless flat washer about 17 mm diameter with an 8 mm hole

I have used these multiple times over my workshop time to get people back on the road with minimal outlay to them and save them having to buy a replacement wheel

I "advise" fitting them when you are removing the ABS tone rings

So what if you added an abs ring to a non abs bike, how/why could they fail you ?

Actually the problem is ABS sensors and Tone rings We just tend to remove both and cut the wire on the FD

The centres here are a government body Hence why it is so fucked up and we have a 4 month waiting list for tests!!

I agree Dr, I didn’t know about the stop discs when I did mine. I would use them now

You keep yours clean which should extend life The ones I had in were all year riders and the salt plus the miles plus the wear took their toll

I was just glad to be able to save the cost of a wheel for the sake of 10 wee shiny washers LOL (Still a pain stripping off all the bolts cleaning and refitting again )

Oh and P.S. I may recall that these were actually non ABS machines that had the issues and how I discovered the Stop discs option

I have done exactly the same, and think the look of the rear "plug" could be improved. Can't post photos here, so will create a thread on ADV Rider for anyone who is interested.

Further to post #27, I've had some plugs made which are now for sale.
Please see eBay item 156569374814.
