BMW in their infinite wisdom have moved to power socket up front which is feck all use for the wife's heated gloves.
Decided to wire in a socket direct of the battery. Took battery cover off and stopped. How do you get to the rear terminal. Tried to pull battery out but it wasn't shifting.
Anyone wired in another socket? If so can I have some " idiot" instructions please.

Look in the manual ,,, but remove the rubber strap , then remove the plastic front strap , fiddly as you have to push , lift , fiddle, bla bla . Then the plastic holding strap needs to be pushed up then it will slid out , this may not make sense but once you have done it you will go , bollocks simples .

Remove the Neg connection , then the bat will slid out.

You don't need to do any of that.

The - terminal of the battery is right in front of you when you've removed the cover and to the right is a remote + terminal !

Simples..

Don't think it's in the manual but it's right there!!

Happy wiring, hope it keeps her hands warm :thumb

I also need a lot more power points on my bikes than BMW caters for.
Below is an example of how I did it on my GS.

I got the powerlet type sockets (Called merrit plugs in some places) from my local ARB 4x4 store. You can also get Cigarette ones or a mix of the two etc ...

In order to bypass the CANBUS I simply created a hard line to the battery rated at 30A going to a relay that creates a switched source. That switched relay goes to a power distribution box where I can plug all my accessories. This means I only have a single 30AMP fused connection to the battery for all my devices and bypasses the canbus.

The devices lose power about 30seconds after the bike is switched off as the switched feed is from a CANBUS source that loses power 30s after ignition is off.

This works good for me as I only need power to feed devices when I ride such as heated gloves, my autocom, my cb radio once it goes flat, my iPhone if its getting flat, etc ...

That's a nice looking socket and you have gone to some trouble to wire it in, by the sounds of it properly too.

I've just wired an optimate connector onto the remote battery terminals as I have a couple of adaptor for outputs for phone chargers etc. this is live all the time so I can charge my phone over night when camping.

Probably like you, I'd rather BM have kept the socket in the original place ..

Nice images, what's the red button for by the right hand grip - ejector seat??

Jon

Ps spoke wheels and red... Not only the fastest but the coolest too!

Thanks Jon.
That's my Push to talk button for my AutoCom.
I can hold the button and speak or can flick the little switch next to it to three positions" Push to Talk (PTT), Constant Talk, or "VOX" Voice activated.

Works real nice with my radio.

Probably go under the rear seat, how big is it?

Is it a bare board or boxed?

Is it from NN -Centec AP-1?? If so it should fit but that area under the seat is, I would say, a wet area!

I can take pics and give you rough dimensions if you want? At least then you can get on to Maplins or RS and get a box for it!

You keep counting the sleeps.... :thumb
