Advice For Buying New GSA

If you stick to one dealer for several years, they don't expect you to go elsewhere. On my latest acquisitions, I called several dealers, and haggled a discount that my usual dealer couldn't get near.

I bought mine new in May and took delivery end of June.

No movement on price AT ALL  but there were more orders than they could fulfil so not surprising really

I got £1000 more for my K1200GT than I paid for it 9 months prior  plus 20% discount on all accessories. That included full luggage, Akro,nav5, tinted screen etc so I saved over £300 on extras...... Which are all very nice and useful :D

The only "add ons" I've fitted are front and rear mudsling/fender extender and rear number plate splash thingy.

It needs for nothing more in the TE guise, it really is a very well sorted bike from standard.

Oh plus rad guards and Hootons screen support brackets. All functional and serve a useful purpose. No bling, been there done that

Enjoy your new bike. This was my first new BMW and I love big blue to bits :D

Forget how much off the list price and more, price to trade. How much you have to pay to get your new bike.
As I said in my previous post above. Put your deal out to tender. Some dealers will drop their pants very quickly. 2k plus saving is easily achievable if you are prepaid to negotiate hard.

Do your research mid month, then at the end of the month go for the deal. End of month / quarter targets sharpens the salesmans pencil

Hi all:

So I'm thinking of buying a brand new BMW R1200GS Adventure... I've never bought a brand new bike before so any advice would be welcome.

Are there any hidden costs or is the on the road price what I'll pay?
Are they going to be the same price at every dealer? Or should I shop around?
I'm paying cash in full so can I haggle?
What can I reasonably expect to get as freebies from BMW to seal the deal?
Should I look out for any sales BS in particular?
Apart from the 600 mile service are there any other costs?

What was your purchase experience like?

Steve

I'd forget the GSA and go for the standard bike, sweeter handling and fruitier all round in my opinion. But if you want the full wanna be adventurer image then get the GSA and full on BMW tw@t suit :D

PS Balderston at Peterborough are a great bunch and I would happily recommend them whatever you choose to do - I have bought new 3 GSes from them since my first 1200 in 2005.

Engineer .. imho , the snag is that the GSA just looks so much better.

Someone else mentioned ; end of the month //// Sales figures/registrations.
I'd add to that and say; "wait till Feb" when the roads are covered in ice/snow. I walk into the dealers and they welcome you as if they haven't seen a customer for weeks... that the correct time to buy a bike and do a deal!

This is a great thread , and like others who are resistant to PCP/finance smoke/mirrors, I can see that next time I'm going to have to "think this through" because cash is no longer king and dealers simply don't get excited about a cash purchase .

I'm trying to negotiate a deal at the moment with my dealer he's offered me £10700 for my 2013 gs lc against the gsa in white with gear shift, gs hangers for my varios and free 1st service £15900, if I can get keyless out of him as well I might go for it but I feel he's £300 shy of what I want! They are reluctant to discount the bike!

So, in effect you are willing to pay the best part of £5K for keyless, gear shift, pannier hangers, a service and a number 14 on a plate?

Wot he said....

I always do my haggling at 4pm on the last day of the quarter. Just keep sucking your teeth and suggesting you'll have a look around and come back tomorrow. Dropped 3k off the price of my last car doing that.

Not quite Jayc, I believe the gsa is about 1k more anyway plus my bike needs two new tyres and a service soon as well as extended warranty in march, i'm fishing now to see if there doing anything at the moment as I had a test on the gsa and liked it.

good to hear about Balderstons - I am moving back to the area and they are now firmly on my radar!

Got a very good deal from the lads at Portslade as December sales targets loomed. "If you buy by Dec x, we can.."I added "and if I buy by Dec x I want..." Seemed to work well!

Both parties quite happy and they still seem pleased to see me as well.

I prefer the styling of the GSA... I don't do twat suits, they don't fit, LOL! I don't know about 'wanna be adventurer' but I have done a fair bit of real adventure on my 2008 F800GS, which now has 65k miles (www.adventurevagabond.com) Got some big adventure plans in the pipeworks for 2016 in which I might use the GSA or I might not?

I brought cash, tbh cash ain't kind no longer and you have less security if things go wrong, as in if you have a pcp deal.

Alternative have a good test ride on a dealers bike and if its for you buy a private one, there's a few GSA's on the private market now fully loaded with ££££ discounted, as new and very little miles .

I suspect that you'll be one of the first to complain if a dealer was to charge for test rides ............

"Give them fcuk-all, but expect them to always be there- for your convenience...."
