Evening all,

A couple of weeks ago some mates and I went on our first trip to Europe on the bikes. We went on Hull to Rotterdam Ferry overnight, rode to Nurburgring, stopped overnight near Cochem then rode onto Black Forest - which was fantastic!

When we got towards Baden Baden I noticed there was slightly less pressure at the clutch lever. This got progressively worse over time to the point where I rode 400miles on the third day (and nearly made it to the Ferry) with minimal clutch use, using it only where absolutely necessary. I got recovered to the Ferry and then home to Lincoln from Hull the following morning. Must say the recovery I took out with Breakdowndirect was bloody fantastic and worth all of £17.45 for the 3 day cover!!! :D

Anyway, enough waffle, I have done some research on here and have almost come to the conclusion that, as the bike drives well (no clutch slip), that the plates could be ok, and as there is no slip - the slave cylinder could be ok, should I start by replacing the master cylinder seals?

Any help/advice or piss taking welcome. Thanks.

Is there fluid in the resivoir?

Is there clutch fluid pissing out the banjo bolt where the connects to the slave cylinder?

Fluid

Yes plenty of fluid in Master cylinder but it is shitty, not seen anything leaking on or from bike.

Just thinking (comments welcome :D )… If the master cylinder is working correctly but the slave cylinder seal has failed, when you operate the clutch lever oil would be pushed passed the failed slave cylinder seal. The master cylinder would slowly drain and the slave would eventually leak.

What would be handy would be to remove the banjo from the slave cylinder, put a nut and bolt through it with perhaps copper washers for seals (don’t damage the banjo faces, keep the master cylinder topped up while your doing this) tighten up and see what pressure the master cylinder can generate against a dead pipe end.

Thanks

Thanks chaps, will first get some new fluid through and bleed, then do the dead end thing.

Mileage

Thanks Steptoe.

Meant to say, it is an 03 model and has done 35k.

Still learning about working on these as used to smaller dirt bikes before, is replacing the Slave cylinder a big job?
