Must say the Bumot Xtremada panniers are brilliant. Much lighter than the ally ones and despite being a bit smaller, you can get stuff in much easier as they are obviously flexible.

Was some fella on an AF forum though it was a Givi bag but I'd guess the height/size are much the same when using tankrings.

I am seriously now considering an ATAS to replace my GS800. However the other front runner is a KTM 1090ADV R.

Anyone ridden or owned both the AT or KTM1090? Would be interested in your feedback.

(Yes I will test ride them at some point) ;-)

Not owned a 1090 but I’ve replaced my 1290R with an ATAS DCT.

Best thing ever about the dct is when you're absolutely soaked in the rain, feet sailing, undies sailing, everything sailing, but you don't have to budge an inch as I found out on Saturday evening whence caught in a storm. :D

Interesting...may I ask why? And do you miss the drop of 65hp? I do like my F800GS but I could do with more motorway grunt. Hence why I considered the 1090r with 125bhp..... the AT has 95hp so Im not sure it will have much more go than the F800.

cheers

I dropped horsepower when I went from my 1190 Adv to the AT. Honestly ? It did concern me initially, but in reality it wasn’t anything to worry about, especially after getting my AT Hilltop’d. The ‘18 AT is even better than the 16/17 bikes and there’s all the power you’ll need in the real world and I’d go as far to say that the ‘18 bikes don’t actually need the Hilltop treatment as they are so similar to how my bike goes after getting mine tweaked. Riding my mates 800 GSA and my AT back to back....the AT feels much more punchy and I don’t have to rev it as hard to make progress.

I had the standard AT DCT in 2016 when it came out.
I loved the bike but it had a few minor issues so I traded it in for the KTM 1290R when it came out.
The 1290R is brilliant but I found I didn’t use it locally (on Guernsey) .I missed the DCT box for pottering. Then Honda released the ATAS. I’d no plans to get one until I had a demo ride and realised it was pretty much near perfect. They had fixed all the gripes off the earlier bike-namely bigger tank, giving a 300 mile range, heated grips that work, stainless spokes, taller seat and screen etc etc.
I swapped the crap OE Dunlops for Pirelli Rally STRs and they are bloody fantastic.Best dual purpose tyres I’ve ever used on road.
I’m away in Brittany at the mo and just loving the bike.
The power is just plenty, and it sounds just great with Akra/baffles out, especially in manual mode using the autoblipper on down changes.
I’ve only filled up once, having done 245 miles with over 80 showing left, though I only had a gallon left so more like 60 miles, but still damn good for a 24 litre tank !!

Downsides of the bike-could do with cruise control for longs shleps, the standard seats aren’t quite as comfy as the KTM Ergo jobbies and you have to remember to drop it down a cog when two up to do a quick overtake.

But other than that,I’m struggling to fault it.
The riding position is perfect for me at 6’1”.No back aches ,bars are very well positioned. The screen is also perfect for me-better than the tall screen I put on the old AT and better than the OE screen on 1290R.
Others have moaned about the ATAS screen but it’s all a question of one’s height etc.
It is just great at 80mph on dual carriage way.No buffet,no wind in face, just a bit of wind on shoulders which seems to come around the sides of the screen but actually stops lower back ache.

The DCT is the game-changer for me,and combined with the autoblipper on the ATAS is bloody fantastic. Works great in S2 but when you hit the twisties, just flick it into manual and use the + and - buttons. With engine braking set to max,you barely ever touch the brakes.

To sum up,if I had to say why I prefer it to my 1290 I would say it feels more complete. It has plenty of poke-lots of low down grunt. The 1290 really does have more than it needs.
The ATAS has great balance.
I can come to a stand still and stay feet up for ages.No one thing outdoes anything else. It’s just the most complete adventure bike/big trailie I’ve yet had.

PS
I’ve ridden a GS800 a fair bit in Chile and the ATAS is in a different league.

Cruise control is just on the horizon, MCCruise are developing it as we speak, due out very soon. Now the AT has TBW, it’s a relatively easy task for them, as they have done for the KTM’s. I’ll be in the que for one, I’ve just done the Outex tubeless conversion and fitted Rally STR’s, so cruise will be the finishing touch. Shame Honda hadn’t done these two things, but that’s probably down the road on the next revamp.

Quick update on the Bumot Xtremada panniers after using them on a four day trip -they are brilliant!!
They hold far more than you think and are easy to fill/close due to the flexible sides . The bottle holders on each end will hold a litre bottle with ease .
Combined with the Givi UT805, I think they’ll be my default luggage on the ATAS rather than the Defender ally panniers ....

Excuse my ignorance but how does cc work as an add on other than those hopeless throttle lock things.

It work via electronic control, because the 2018 bikes are tbw. That means you get almost factory like cruise control performance, only downside is it’s a separate bank of buttons to attach to the handle bar.
