How do you get one of these useless things then, will I get one with my AT, the dealer didn't mention it ???

You mentioned this before . Why does a motorbike have to have a USP to be any good ?
What USP does a 1200GS have? :nenau

Nothing has to have a USP for it to be good, but having a USP differentiates it from the rest and gets it noticed rather than it just being one of the crowd.

How many other manufacturers make boxer twin, shaft driven, telelevered suspended adventure bike?
How many make a twin cylindered, chain driven, conventionally suspended adventure bike?
The GS stands out from the crowd and it works incredibly well.

So as an 'engineer' you think a drive shaft performs better than a chain do you ..... ??!

Engineer ive sussed you mate you are a proper wind up merchant, I laughed so much reading this a bit of wee came out, I bet you've been around all the local Honda dealers and test ridden the bollocks out of there demo bikes, and you've either got an Africa twin already or its on order and awaiting delivery, because no one would waste the amount of time you have in trying to convince us all that it is a gutless razor blade seated bike that cant tour unless your a wind up or you've got one but wont admit to it as you've told all your mates you'll never buy anything but a BMW GS because of there "USP"

this may come as a shock but there really is a better bike out there than a GS, they are a great bike I know ive owned 14 of them and ive still got one but they are not perfect and they do break, they have got issues and they do get fixed and updated every year, I noticed the new shape cable tie on the 2016 model in the showroom

Just have an open mind fella like the people who have bought them, if not re-start the meds and un-plug the keyboard:D:thumb

True but you claimed the DCT is not a USP because other Honda models have it. You seem to have forgotten how many other bikes BMW have made that are boxer powered, shaft driven and telelever suspended.

One could equally argue that the Honda is the only 1000cc parallel twin + 270degree crank powered bike making it quite unique in the burgeoning adventure market especially with its 21/18 wheel combo :nenau

Of course none of us is at all influenced by marketing.

We're all far too clever for that malarkey:D

Tried the AT recently and liked it quite a lot. Based on a recentish thread on here had a go on the DCT and liked that even more tbh.

If I had the dosh to splash on summat a bit more solo focussed to go alongside the TC I'd probably have a big glop on the bugger however the TC spends a lot of time transporting folk that I'd like to luche my schwantz at least one more time, over long distances with zero tripadviser stylee whinges.

Personally, younger folk, sad (or indeed happy) single feckers of any age and those with partners with similar dimensions to yer average Thai ladyboy (mix and match as necessary) should love the bike.:)

I agree up to a point but put the GS weirdness all together and it clearly stands out from rest - the Honda as nice as it may well be, just does not - its marketing plus is that it is reviving a past icon - which is the fashion at the moment.

Again true up to a point but it's also hard to stand out from all the rest when almost everybody else is riding exactly the same bike.:P

BMW Have also regularly used the GS history as a marketing ploy when in truth the current LC is about as close to the original as an R1 is to a 350YPVS.

I think you can stand out nowadays without taking a large risk and there lies the rub.

Even if dynamically you might actually have a slightly inferior bike as a result if it makes you smile for whatever you use it for then all is good surely?

Standing out from the other manufacturers machines are concerned often makes a bike successful, success tends to breed success because the revenue is there to develop and refine the design.

When I was in Europe last Summer every other bike on the road seemed to be a GS of one generation or the other.

MV are a good example of this - expensive and not quite dynamically right but nice to own for the occasional Sunday blast.

Some kinda oxymoron surely so I take it the above was intended to be ironic :nenau

How can you stand out from the crowd when every other bike is the same as yours

how long before honda release a more road orientated spin on the AT?

with 19/17" or even 17/17" tubeless wheels. when they've done that, they can make it 125bhp. surely the only reason it's restricted at the moment is the daft decision to run tubes???
