What I find incredible is grown men taking this shit seriously. My bike better than your bike. The best bike in the world is the bike I currently own. Jeez, it's only a motorbike...like it, buy it, don't like it don't buy it.

Stop being a boring grown up mulch....:blast

So a chisel is just a chisel is it Melch ... ??

You calling me boring...fuck me...shouldn't you be banging on ad infinitum somewhere about migrants...or the EU...or liberal lefties.

Blimey.... Can't you stop going on about migrants/the EU/ or liberal lefties on a bike related thread or what mulch ? :blast

The only area where the AT might be a better bike than the GS is one up off-road, in almost all other respects it is not as good.

How the f***k can you keep saying that when you have never ridden the bloody thing :blast

Not only that but the author of the article you keep referring to makes many references to things it did better than the GS (as well as things it didn't ) . The test was conducted wholly ON ROAD and he said he preferred riding it to the GS !!!!!!!!!!!

Now that's only his opinion but at least he'd ridden the thing, at length, and has a modicum of experience of many different motorcycles.

How obtuse can you be !!!!!!!????

All you newbies are becoming a wee bit boring now...! :rob

I’ve got a couple of Honda 650 twins that pump out 100 ponies, yes really, and stem from the early eighties so nothing new there, Honda have been doing it since Dog was a boy! :rob

They're fun to ride and surprise the odd non believer, especially me when braking using anything more than a gentle caress of the perfectly formed brake lever.... :D

My point, if indeed there is one, is that anyone with as much service on this forum as I have, will know that a well ridden R1150GS will trump anything, no if's or buts!!! :dabone

So stop your willy waving and resign yourselves to the FACT that the pinnacle has been reached years ago....decline is inevitable and the only way forward, albeit at a far slower pace, is a Honda C90 as per Ed March http://www.c90adventures.co.uk/ ...enjoy the scenery!

As I actually own a new Africa twin, I've read this thread and all the others on here and can comment with as much knowledge as anyone on here as ive owned every adventure type bike made, and although I'm not going to say this one is better than that one, it cracks me up to the point of swearing at the screen when I read all the shite about the AT being gutless !!
it will wheelie in first gear off the throttle, can hold a decent 2nd gear wheelie right up to the rev limiter, does 100 in 3rd gear !!
who gives a flying fuck that its slower than a GS LC from 40-80 in top gear, drop 4 gears and wind it on that will show you its not gutless,

pillion comfort, My Mrs has been on the back and she hasn't complained at all and says its the smoothest bike ive had (Manual)

My advice to anyone thinking of getting one or is at least somewhat open minded to there being any other bike on the planet that isn't a GS is to go and ride one, and in your case Engineer take some pics of your test ride as no one will believe you otherwise, and sample the delights of Honda build quality and refinement, not all bikes that bang, clank shake from side to side, and cant get out of gear at traffic lights are characterful,

My 1190 Adventure R or Versys 1000 would have left any GS dead in there tracs from 40-80 in top gear but what difference does that make if we all wanted the fastest bike from 40-80 we would all have panniers on R1s

really if anyone is so against a decent bike albeit a Honda that, Ok may not be as powerful as we expected it would be but is still not gutless why no go and talk about something you've at least tried, until then your not really qualified to make comment !!

I have no idea which adventure bike is best for road use, off road use, solo riding, two up riding, continental touring or the Tesco run...... I've had many bikes, loved most of them in one way or another, had a great time with my 1150GSA SE but never fancied a 1200, I seriously looked at the Super Ten and almost took the plunge last year, I buy my bikes with my heart, if I like how it looks and it suits my needs at the time then I give it a go, my F6C and my GL1800 are keepers, I can't find anything I'd change them for but my Harley was traded today for a Tricolour AT.......I love how it looks, the front end is ace, the paint quality seems top notch, the attention to detail is impressive, I'm comfy on it, it seems great value for money and the fact that it's changed how I feel about the current crop of adventure bikes sealed it for me........happy days.......

Mines been in the garage since Thursday before last on its 16 plate ive fitted some bits to it Heated rips Oxford Premium, additional stop and tail light same size as the rear reflector, Zumo 660, alarm, twin USB power socket, Front LED Fogs also aftermarket, and cant wait for Tuesday to come so I can get out on it !!

LMFAO :D

Yup thus thread is indeed a giggle

Search a bit harder and you'll find the post where I tongue in cheek say that I've ridden the bike on my own private road !! mine has been ridden on trade plates, but the bike I was talking about was the dealers demo that I had for 3 days as they had more than 1 at the time but was asked not to say as others may request a 3 day test ride !!

Adventure boy ... I enjoyed reading your threads on the AT. I understand why some of you ordered them.
But boy- this thread with so much negativity about the AT!
I'm baffled at how someone's enthusiasm for the GS means they "stick their fingers in their ears" and "close their eyes" anytime other bikes get mentioned.

Totally agree.Happens in all walks of life and this is a GS forum with 1000s of members but I guess it's bound to attract narrow-minded blinkered individuals. But as the main culprit is so wrapped up in his own bubble and hasn't even got the brains to go try an AT and therefore have a base for his hollow bullshit,I find the best way is just stick such individuals on the ignore list........

me too mate that's why I posted the above, individuality is what keeps us all apart, otherwise it would be a very boring world and there would only be a handful of bikes to choose from
I couldn't give a crap what any of my mates ride, the important thing is that they all do, I also own a GS a 55 plate 1150GS ADV SE that is Mint and fully loaded that I keep in an electric bubble in the workshop so im not biased just like a variation in my bikes !!

Arsey forgot mate sorry you wanted a pic of the sat nav mount I Used

Ta.

I'm going to get one from Rugged Roads once they produce it.

Might be doing a deal tomorrow to possibly trade the Versys in against something that keeps appealing. Will still use the Versys on my 2000 mile jaunt in April to Tarn Gorge/Millau and Route Napoleon. As much as I love it,I think it will take a back seat once I pick up the AT this week, whereas the proposed toy will complement the AT and 950SE rather nicely !!
