Thinking of getting a second hand seat but what actually makes them more comfortable, is it profile, foam, gel inserts etc??? Raised my bars to sort my dodgy back but getting pain in my tail bone now!! Thinking I might try 1 of these gel inserts they you put into the seat yourself but dunno really....

I think my Corbin is a combination of gel and contour. It's a completely different shape to the original and takes the pain away from the inside top thigh area. I also had to go down the bar riser route to bring them up and back slightly.

I have a Corbin too, great Seats IMHO.
I've used them on Harleys too.
There's no Gel in them though AFAIK, it's all down to the Type / Density of the Foam they use.
I've never found Gel Inserts to be of any help.

Don't waste your money on a gel pad.
See if you can pick up a second hand Sargent seat.
Best money I've spent on my GSA

I bought and fitted a heated bmw pad secondhand from this site, to my 14 GSA and use it when the bum gets a tad numb on longer journeys, 5 mins on ,keeps warm for another 5 mins.
Did same to my RT1150, has been on bike for 13 yrs and still working fine. I find the heated seat does relieve the numbness for me.

Swapped mine on my 15 GSA for Sargent seats. Much improved comfort, but still not all day comfy for me.

BMW standard seat was a instrument of torture for me................ Need to find the one that suits you.

Good luck.

I have a Wunderlich ergo on my TC and is significantly better than OEM. When I first got it thought I had made a serious mistake as it is much firmer than OEM. However, I can ride pretty much all day rather than the two hours max as the seat pan is wider meaning that you are resting on your butt cheeks (pelvic bone) rather than sinking into the seat and resting on your spine/tailbone. It also has the added benefit of not pushing you forward and crushing your nutts....always a bonus I find.

I think the Sargent seat works on similar principles but managed to find the Ergo on eBay second hand for well under half price and unmarked both front and pillion. Having now done about 5k on it, it is well and truely worn in....result.

I used to get numb/painful rear end after a couple of hours, would carry onto the next day so touring was a no. I tried an Airhawk and it meant I could finish the ride. Borrowed a friends Sargent and it to was good. In the end I had my standard gsa seat cut down into a Sargent style and a gel pad inserted by Tony Archer in Huddersfield. Did a couple of thousand miles in July and no issue whatsoever.

My sargent seat is wider at the rear, narrower in the middle, flatter on top and the foam is much harder than the stock seat. The firmness feels odd at first, but on long all-day rides it is much better for comfort than a soft seat.

The only issue is the rear piping of the seat pan tends to rub into my lower spine and coccyx causing numbness as I slouch back in the seat, causing me to forcibly sit upright. I hope to adjust my posture soon by fitting some lowered foot pegs which I hope will alleviate this.

I have a seat up on ebay here: not too expensive to try. here on ebay under item number 152285903226

I agree.
The Sargent has a ridge at the back which seems to fit round the back of your arse. This feature alone makes it far less fatiguing than the standard seat.
Keep looking in here & Ebay for one.

I have a Corbin and a Sargent and they are both excellent but both very different; I use the Sargent for everyday use and the Corbin for longer trips.

The Corbin is wide, heavy and expensive but is probably the better of the two IMHO.

There looks to be a Sargent for sale on here at present.

Good luck.

I had a Corbin on a Yamaha. Very heavy and not waterproof it also rubbed my inner thigh and being so wide made it a long stretch to the floor.

I tried a standard height Sargent on the GS. That immediately dug into my thigh so I didn't even bother to test ride it.

Kahedo ultra low solved any floor reach issues but made the handlebars feel like ape hangers and my knees were scrunched.

Kahedo/Touratech standard is the same height as OEM GS standard height. It works for me though 1/2" less floor reach would be nice.

Kahedo/Touratech high is the same height as OEM GSA seat. It's more comfortable but just a tad too tall for me.

OEM GS seat has a lump at the back that dug into my coccyx. OEM GSA too tall too narrow and rock hard.
