Ok I was wondering due to me being new on the gs after many years on nice smooth jap bikes,, is it normal for the GS to feel agricultural, in the way it sounds and move,, i get the hole gs thing with the style of bike it is, but its unerving me a little to some of the sounds the bike gives of .. hope that makes sence lol dealer asures me its all fine ?

Perfectly natural, spend a little money on earplugs ;)

They are tractors, all part of the charm!!.

Felt exactly the same the first time I rode one. Now on nr 3 GSA ! Enough said. :comfort

Agricultural how dare you,hey did you know kawasaki build combine harvester,s not bmw ,ha ha
if it didnt feel the way it does then something is wrong with it :thumb

its character don't you know, tried a 4 cyl Jap bike once and nearly passed out with boredom

around 40 - 50k miles it gets quieter!

twins rule

After 15 yrs riding GS's when I get on a 4 just seems ... Well "boring" so yes guess they call it character :rob

But do agree listening to the engine start up from cold and the tick over  nearly as noisy as the new water cooled :blast

Enjoy

Sounds fair BMW don't make proper tractors so all that stuff gets included in the bikes

There's nothing quite like a boxer twin such as the GS.
They shake sideways when you blip the throttle when stationary.
They whir along when going slow through town, and chatter, pop and grunt when you give them a fistful.
And before you reach 3k revs, even the dials shake themselves silly.

I love the 'function over style' design.

Just sayin........
I never wish to buy another inline 4.

Just the way they are ... think rotavator with wheels and a bit less excitement.

If I want to go fast I always have the R1, but for everything else theres the GSA.

For pure acceleration and speed there's nothing to touch the R1. Very little anyway.
For banging along poor quality roads with odd camber, tightening bends and having the visibility and punch to overtake effortlessly there is very little to beat the GS.
It really does benefit from a remap (or power commander), while R1 is top knotch straight out of the box.

+1 on the power commander (or a remap).
Makes it the bike it should have been.
Removing the catalytic converter or a different set of front pipes is a good move too. Noisy silencer is not necessary, unless you like that sort of thing.
Smoother and pulls like a train up to the red line. No change to fuel consumption either.

Maybe I'm biased, but I've been on twins and a triple for the last 15 years or more and I don't think the 1200GS, properly sorted, is at all agricultural. My first ride on a GS was on an 1150 and I did think that was agricultural and not a patch on the 955 Tiger I bought, but my TC is a different kettle of fish all together, especially since it's been Hilltopped and Decatted.

I find fours too "busy" and although they may vibrate less, the vibration you do get is more annoying.
