Air Filter

Since fitting my new air filter I have noticed I'm getting a bit of oily type stuff coming out of filter after a run. Not a lot but didn't notice before on my other filter. Definitely not from me spraying filter with filter oil.
Bike is running fine but unsure if i should put my other back on.

The crank case breather pipe is directed into the air filter so the engine is supposed to "re burn" the oily air..... (emissions) The oil in the mist "settles out" in practice. Mine does it as well. You can buy an arrangement (Trask Industries springs to mind) that takes the oily mist away from the air filter and into a catch can.....I think they only cost about eleventy million dollars! (or you could get some rubber tube and some tube fittings and make one yourself

Just had a look at Trask. Yup expensive. I'll carry on using a rag. Already in the bad books with the chief money operations manager.

why not extend the pipe to under the engine ?

the shop you got the air filter from .......did it have BIG windows ?

Diverting the oil mist rather than feeding it back into the combustion chambers is a positive step…as is NOT over filling with oil.

I could have made one out of a washing up bottle and old car sponge but i dont think it would have looked good.

One solution is to vent into the top transmission cover as per the following link:
He expalins the principles quite clearly and describes the process from just over the 5 minute mark.

In summary:
Buy oem plastic cover £70 or save original in case bike goes to dealer and you want to revert to standard, sure they would express warranty concerns.
Idenitfy the section of the cover over the chamber which allows crankcase to vent into the oil tank.
Drill hole or tap / screw in a union of some sort eg bleed nipple type
Locktite on threads of union.
Nitrile rubber hose connection.
Route behind airbox down to right side of frame

The complete kit for this is available commercially in the USA.

Note: Engine oil mist does not get into the gearbox as the vent is from a different chamber.

Vented oil dipstick is another route. I think Fueling make one.

Reduces carbon buildup.

Well decided to go down the Trask route but unsure if I can fit it now until I know if the 8 lobe oil pump has the back plate and seal. Pump was fitted in March 2021 so I'm pretty sure it has after looking into it. I can't find out the information so only way is to pull apart.
Any of you lads any thoughts on if I should fit or wait ? Not a massive problem as on my next trip I'll put the rain cover over the air filter. Bike would have to go into dealers to check as it's not something I would want to do and probably go terribly wrong.

I would wait to check out if the plate and seal were also fitted, cannot see why not but just to be sure.

There are loads of different ones. I know I need blue but any idea what strength I should get please.

Get yourself a decent size (50ml) bottle of this…don’t use the silly “stick” things they sell at Halfords… and anything around the air intake make sure you use it… my avatar shows what happens when you don’t …. and that was not me..

So all bolts on the filter should have loctite on them ? My next job cleaning the filter so I'll do them.

All you’ve got to do, in deciding which bolts/studs/nuts need thread locker is figure out where then can go if they come loose….
look closely and you can see the thread pattern off one of the studs that was sucked through the motor……
