Airhead 80-100 G/S Adventure Build

I also had fun compressing the drive shaft and getting the snap ring in. Not sure what the issue s with the subframe??

I agree with you about the cable. It needs to be as straight as you can get it without it being stretched due the swing arm movement. You’ll lose a lot of braking efficiency with a curve like that.

By the look of it shirley it could be replaced by a rod

However,I may well have reduced the shock stroke, when I specced it

I think you must have done.

Full compression and the rear wheel fouls the rear light holder cross piece. I’ll extend the sub frame a bit and change th we cross piece so I can get full compression.

With the rod rear brake you get changes in the geometry,so the rear brake can lock as the suspension compresses
And release as it unloads.

That’s why the HPN guys developed the cable to replace the rod. Now I’ve tweaked the setup I can see that it will work well.

Just reduce the shock stroke,
It’ll look stupid if you stretch the subframe

You’re bang on Mike.

After a bit of measuring up I’ve worked out I can fit the rear mudguard and seat, and keep the clearance without extending it.

That's on the underslung rods me thinking. I could of course be wrong :D .
AGAIN

I don’t recall that being a problem with mine and the underslung rod - Or maybe I just never noticed and after every compression it applied a little rear brake that kept it straight and stable, a sort of early ESP :D

Now then the perceptive amongst you will notice an issue with the rear shock upper mount. Can you tell what it is yet?

As the extended swing arm compresses, the upper mount moves in a greater arc around the bolt hole than the original.

So at half compression it fouls the mount.

So out comes Mr Dremel, et voila.

I’ll tidy up the radius now I’ve checked it’ll fit.

I want to run a 2/3rds size seat cos I’m a big fella, the single seat is just a bit short.

And I’ll be using Mosko Moto reckless 80 luggage, so don’t need racks. And with 2 into 2 exhaust with lower silencers I get the space I need for the luggage.

But as above the rear rack will need to be a little longer.

This is the OE rack

With a bit of adjustment I can get what I need. Just need to offer up the exhausts now to make sure everything fits, then subframe and rack can go off to the welder.

I’ll worry about how I fix the seat to the subframe later …

Finally just fitting the rocker covers to keep everything nice and clean inside.

These are my “off road” jobs, have some nice new peanuts for the trips to Starbucks!

Though they don’t look too bad.
