I agree with you about the cable. It needs to be as straight as you can get it without it being stretched due the swing arm movement. You’ll lose a lot of braking efficiency with a curve like that.
By the look of it shirley it could be replaced by a rod

With the rod rear brake you get changes in the geometry,so the rear brake can lock as the suspension compresses
And release as it unloads.
I think you must have done.
Full compression and the rear wheel fouls the rear light holder cross piece. I’ll extend the sub frame a bit and change th we cross piece so I can get full compression.

. That's on the underslung rods me thinking. I could of course be wrong.
