Just purchased the Akrapovic slip on for my R1200GS and I was also thinking about fitting the headers, but the reviews are mixed with some saying there's a loss of torque between 1750 - 4500rpm due to removing the "flap".

What are members thoughts on the headers? Worth the price?

I put GRP headers on and left the std end can, for £300 they have transformed the bike, pulls clean right through, sounds great, I have a feeling the GS will run too lean with the headers and end can, there shouldn't be any loss of torque removing the exhaust flap as it's only there to reduce noise

Is there much of a difference just changing the headers ? I'm just tryin to see if it's worth it :-) :beerjug:

Yes more the headers make a bigger difference than the can, so much that I have put the standard can back on

The decat headers with a can on = loud

the decat headers with a standard can = a nice throaty growl

just my opinion :beerjug:

Re changing the headers. Bar the weight saving advantages and the cost, are there any other benefits in fitting titanium headers over stainless steel ones?

They look cool as fuck! That's how I justified the extra cost anyways....

Hi all, just fitted the titanium headers and yes they are cool as fuck

Question though, did you leave the valve electrics connected??

Nah, junk 'em :thumb

Yes leave the electrical plug connected but remove the cables that would normally operate the flap. Make sure you cover the holes where the cables were to stop road dirt getting in.

If you remove the electrical connection the bike will have a tantrum and start showing error warnings.

yes go for it.
i always fit akros. they don,t cost much once you factor the purchase price against what you get selling them on if you change bikes.
probably the easiest yoke to sell.
BMW say the bikes computer learns the exhaust.
a hilltop would be good. in my case: Rapid bike evo.
result.
sounds glorious with the DB's in.
muffles all that engine rattle.
Accelerates like fec.
Looks great.
Stinks up the garage as much as my 79 Cadillac.
Could be dodgy entering French emission zones.

Forget the headers....significant increase in noise for little gain and runs rough. Spend the money on AF XIED units that will transform how the bike runs....much smother and more grunt...I did this and fell in love with my bike all over again. Check out the thread.

True, true and not true, on mine a noticable improvement in smoothness made even better at hilltop.
As said, the best bang for your buck would be to spend your money on a fuelling set up, whether P.C ,AF XIED or remap at hilltop. Adding an end can just gets you more noise.
Now you have got the can you will have to buy the headers, by then it will be money wasted unless you get the fuelling set up, so, just do the right thing and go the whole hog, you won't regret it and it will, of course, make you a better person. Bike money doesn't count.

Cheers gents.

Fitted and there is a marked difference. Next stop Hill top
