Are panniers kept as clean as a female bishops hat worth materially more than never cleaned panniers? No. How about the cost of cleaning products and your time? Its all a bit OCD dont you think?

On a more serious note , I cleaned my top box once with AUTOSOL metal polish, quite tough work realy but results were very good.

Not planning to do this again, boxes get washed when the bike gets washed with good old car shampoo.

If you must really want them clean, Treat the black parts with silicone then use a buffing mop on a power drill to polish the ally. The silicone should allow the grey gunk to clean off the black bits. Hopefully.

TBH within reason I think the patina of use is lots nicer than inyerface shiny cases.

Mine are beyond redemption from an asthetic point of view due to all the scratches on them but at least there's no rust.
