Alternative paralever bearings

Well, I took a look at the website. Some interesting claims for the Nylatron, even some "bushes for a dumper truck - to replace bronze bushes". Alas, I remain skeptical of its use as a replacement for metal paralever bearings, even though i love the idea! A redesign would be needed to convince me...as I mentioned earlier, there seems to be too much material (plastic) taking too much load,I see the Nylatron as a self lubricating bush, not a structural support.

For its use in suspension assemblies, that's just fine, but suspension doesn't take anything like the forces of the paralever or other structural joints. In fact the suspension depends on those structural joints to be rigid in order to do its job...so suspension is maybe not a good comparison.

Warning. I could still be talking rubbish. But I have the fact bmw put a bearing in there to start with .

35,000km on mine and they are like new. Many BMW bearings have done much less than that. Bought two sets. One for the GS and one for my K1200RS which I haven't yet installed.

BTW BMW has a lot of failed designs on their bikes. Rear bearings are part of that bunch. ;-)

C'mon, that's only just 20k miles. My oem bearings only showed signs of wear at nearly 50k miles

Joking aside, I'm warming to the idea and your comments are interesting. As are Ian's. One of my thoughts are that the joint, as it stands on the 1150, wasn't dimensioned for a plastic bearing, so I'm a little dissatisfied with the idea of just filling the space completely with plastic to replace all the metal that was there. Can you see my thinking?

Anyway, I've enjoyed the discussion . For now my all metal replacement will be watched carefully. If it needs re-doing during my ownership I'll take another look at these nylatron items

Cheers
