I've just fitted a new coil to my mono :thumb2, and figure that I should probably change the HT leads too as they're of a similar vintage.

I'm very inclined to use off-the-shelf HT lead at less than £2 per metre to make up a pair of new leads, rather than paying £20 plus VAT per lead for genuine parts.

Being a Yorkshireman I'm not naturally inclined towards the more expensive option...:D

I assume there's probably a very good reason why we should use the original parts rather than simply making up new leads.... please does anyone know of the pros and cons?

Many thanks,

Paul G

Best to use copper core cable and resistor caps of coursse, I think that 5000 ohm is the required cap but check as some bikes had different coils.

Euromotoelctric has replica leads with the metal Beru caps for a reasonable price but postagge will probably kill that for you, we Aussies have to pay postage on everything---.

Is it possible you chaps reckon to make my own and yet retain the quaint chrome caps?

cheers

Very doubtful..you'd need to join the new HT lead to the old HT lead still attached to the cap....would look naff and maybe suceptible to water ingress etc. The metal plug caps arn't that reliable either !!

New HT lead and an NGK cap...sorted :thumb2

Some years ago,on a trip to Italy,I had a HT lead pack up in Belgium.
Sunday morning,everywhere closed,no chance.
Aguy pointed us down the road to a garage which was closed, but had a big skip outside.
Dug around for 20 mins, found some that fitted, though a tad long, used them for the rest of the trip ,no problem.
Then again it was an Airhead.:thumb:thumb:thumb
