Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Well, following on from a previous post, I successfully removed my alternator (and dismantling the ABS in the process)

Now I replaced the Voltage regulator and found that the resistor on the old regulator was missing - Im assuming that this was the problem since the alternator wasn't charging.

So, Now I have the alternator on the bench. Is there a simple way to test the alternator before I reinstall it ? I can spin the alternator using a model aircraft starter motor, but which is the energising terminal etc ??

Cheers

This is how I do oilhead alternators

Clamp the alternator in a vise.
Attach to a battery + and - and put a digital volt meter across the battery.
Take an electric drill and with a Torx bit that fits the pulley end and spin it up (drill should be capable of 2000 rpm)
While spinning, touch the D+ terminal to Battery+ for 1 second.
The alternator should excite and the battery voltage should rise to approx. 14.1v
