Am I deformed!!!!! (serious answers only)

Having a problem with a new 09 adventurer which seems a bit strange so thought I would ask the membership for advice.

No matter how I place by bum on the seat my right leg rubs against the air intake tube on the right side of the bike. There is load of room between the left leg and the left intake tube. Any body else had this problem??? Never had any trouble with my old 1150.

Also noted the other day whilst on the motorway that the top yoke appears to be out of alignment by about 3 degrees again to the right. Could all this be related ?

Look forward to your comments

I don't know if the offset in the 1200 cylinders that allows for the connecting rods to fit on the crank is any greater than on the 1150, but the part about the top yoke being out of alignment sounds scary.

Time for some checking on that I'd say ;)

Yoke misalignment...... I think I have an idea where this is going.... How have you measured 3 degrees, against what as your datum?

Anyway, for now, my boots rub the throttle body/airbox tubes too, and several other people's bikes have the same marking, so it's a fairly common trait.

Timpo.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Have had a good look at the attached picture and it would appear that the right hand intake tube is prouder than the left. So may have to try riding side saddle. At least I can now stop walking around in circles ???

The right hand head is also further back, as it should be.

I havent got the figures to hand, but if the bore of the 1200 is bigger than the 1150 (which it would be, unless they just increased the stroke to get the bigger capacity) then the offset of the connector rods to crankshaft will be greater as well (unless, again, they have angled connector ends to the shaft :nenau) so the right hand cyclinder may well be even firther back in comparison to the 1150 boxer.

Then again, I could just be talking bollox :nenau

(I've tried to find a decent photo of an 1150 from above like that 1200 so we can compare but they're not popping up very easily which is odd)

New bike so spent most of the first 600 miles on the back roads and off main roads. After first service, set of for a couple of days in west Scotland.
Whilst on the motorway had time to relax and have a look around the bike. With bike running straight looking down on the top yoke I would have expected the front of the yoke to be parallel, but noted that in fact it appears to be angled to the right by about 3 degrees (Estimate). Must need my eyes testing, so during a coffee brake explained to my good lady (Pillion) to have a look at the bars and top yoke when on the motorway and you guessed it she said that there are not parallel.!!!!!!!

So out with the technical measuring equipment (string), different length from bar ends to pegs and different length from intersection of scallop on top yoke to centre of filler cap. Major panic of twisted forks and damage to seals then note that forks not connected to top yoke ???
So reported fault to dealer by telephone just to cover ones self and now awaiting an opportunity to return bike.

Just asking if any one had similar problems also noted that centre stand cross bar rusty after 1000 miles ?????

Nipcurrent, I dont think these bikes have perfect symmetry, for example, look at the screen mounting and screen. These are mounted at a slight angle meaning one side of the screen is slightly forward compared to the other.
I looked at one in the showroom and it's the same. It's the just way they are!
Nothings perfect. although some would argue that for 12k it bloody well should be!

Mine is exactly the same. Mentioned it at the 600 service last week and its still the same so assume its not a problem.

engine axis lines for all boxers since the 4 valvers came on with the 1100 are the same (googled - i am no expert either). Cylinder stroke and bores vary, but only a bit.

The 1200 is also apparently a true 1170, whilst the 1150 is a true 1130. Oh the things you learn googling
:rob

oh, I am 6'5 and my right shin rubs the intake pipe too.... "they all do that sir"

Still I find the GS supremely comfortable. In fact (and as most here know, I am a complete moaner abt anything and absolutely love talking the GS down as a pile of backwards piece of tractor rust- which largely it is), the only serious reason that I still own one is that it offers me (and the over 6footers) 100% touring bike comfort with only 10% of the touring bike's city riding (90% of my miles) size problems. Otherwise I d have either a K1200GT or a Pan.

In fact, come to think of it I was always a 4cyl person. I don't like the boxers or v twins at all.
