Amazing Bike

I know there are some reliability issues with the GS - I have had a few 'failure to proceeds' myself, but the GS is an amazing bike all the same. I have had an 05 model from new and a year ago bought a K1200R intending to then sell the GS. The K is a great bike and pretty much everything the GS is not. In my view it looks awesome, the acceleration is just astonishing and the noise from the stock exhaust while it is doing it is fantastic too. That said, I can't bring myself to be without a GS and I still find it is the bike I have the most fun on. It may not be as brutal as the K, but the way it corners, even in the wet and the riding position looking down on the traffic always brings a smile to my face. Throwing it from corner to corner feels what motorbikes are all about. It is great to have the luxury of both bikes - and on a lovely sunny day (twice a year!) the choice of which one to ride to work can be the first hard decision of the day - but if I could only have one bike it would definitely be the GS.

I know what you mean

Robp,
I know exactly what you mean. I've had the GSA since last June and clocked up 6000 miles on it and it's been great, very stable and comfortable over long distances. Went to Spain on it in December and just spent Easter in France on it though I did manage to crash in the snow.

I just bought a K1200S which is awesomely fast (broke down this week, 49 miles on the clock:tears) but I still see myself spending most time on the GS.

Edventure, sorry to hear about the breakdown on the K1200S. I have not had an issue with the KR (with the exception of the starter button sticking in (which was interesting!), but had a number of breakdowns with the GS within the first couple of months. Had a new battery fitted, gear position switch refitted (at roadside by BMW Assist), brake hydraulic module changed following brake failure. Touch wood though, it has been great since with no issues (saying which I will probably now be on the bus home from work!)

I was going to buy a K12S last year. It is a fantastic bike - goes like a missile and sticks to the road like glue! - went to the dealers to sign the form, then looked over at the GS, took it out for 1/2 hour, and purchased that instead.

In an ideal world I would have the two (lucky you Rob!) - but a good friend of fine recently traded his GS in for a K12R, and so we just swap bikes on long runs! - so, I suppose I have 'the ideal world' after all!

(my next bike will be a K though - much as I like the R)

I've just had the first annual service done on the K12R. Heard a mechanic speaking about a rear tyre worn to limits and thought that it can't be mine as bike has only done 2000 miles! Wrong! I am amazed as the GS has done 7000 now and the tyre only looks half worn. Mind you, the KR is a brutal bike
