Well, as you enjoyed yesterday's extravaganza as much as me, and cos the wife and boys come back tonight, thought I'd make the most of 20C sunshine, and head out again, albeit a bit later as I stayed up watching Cowboys and Aliens with a few glasses of red last night :augie

Again, up the Route de St Cezaire, to St Vallier like yesterday, but turned off the Route Napoleon after 300 metres, and headed over towards the Col de Bleine instead. Almost half an hour into the ride before the camera came out :D

On the D5 from St Vallier

Nuff said, further up the same road

IMG2079-XL.jpg

Climbing up to the Col de Bleine, it started getting quite hazy..

IMG2081-XL.jpg

Hadn't been back here since the GSA was new, over 8 years ago. It was a day old and it fell over right in front of this very sign. No such mishaps today :D

IMG2087-XL.jpg

On the north side of the Col de Bleine heading towards St Auban, the views are pretty cool.

IMG2088-XL.jpg

Lovely little road from the Col de Bleine

IMG2093-XL.jpg

On the road to St Auban, not a lot of traffic around today either :nenau

IMG2095-XL.jpg

The entrance to the 'Clue de St Auban'

IMG2096-XL.jpg

Inside the 'Clue' not a clue what it means though:augie

IMG2099-XL.jpg

Up and over the tiny Col de Buis, turned the bike facing uphill for this photie after it falling over yesterday:P

IMG2101-XL.jpg

Over towards Entrevaux, no sign of any pussy here though:comfort

IMG2103-XL.jpg

Lunch stop in Entrevaux, nice old mediaeval town with the old fort perched high above, bugger walking all the way up there. Had a great sandwich and cafe creme instead :D

IMG2105-XL.jpg

Was initially going to head straight back along the N202, but decided to have a scoot up to the Col du Fa, which is a dead end, road up there goes to the Gorges du Daluis, but didn't go that far today.

IMG2106-XL.jpg

Well, the Col du Fa is a lovely road which climbs up then suddenly runs out and becomes a dirt track. Normally no problem to a big hairy 'Adventure' rider like me, but given the state of me tyres, thought better of it, so turned around and came down again.:toungincheek

IMG2107-XL.jpg

Just above Castellet les Sausses, looking down over the Var valley.

IMG2108-XL.jpg

Castellet les Sausses off in the distance.

IMG2109-XL.jpg

Nice little village, but dead as a dodo

IMG2111-XL.jpg

Back to the N202, turned right towards Annot, got a piccie of the 1200ADV here, so thought I'd get one of the 1150 too. I love these old ads

IMG2114-XL.jpg

Further up the N202, heading towards the Castellane turnoff, still no traffic to speak of:D

IMG2115-XL.jpg

Further along again, still on the N202, which is the lesser known, but equally magnifique relation of the Route Napoleon

IMG2117-XL.jpg

Final photo of the N202 as we're near the turnoff to Castellane which runs along the Lac de Castillon

IMG2119-XL.jpg

Tyres were starting to slide slightly, rear is not quite slick, but 'well-used' shall we say. Booked in Wednesday next week for a new pair of Anakee 2's before the Le Mans trip.

IMG2121-XL.jpg

Stopped just after the dam on Lac de Castillon, which is about 5 minutes from Castellane.

IMG2122-XL.jpg

Another view of Castellane, well, I couldn't post pics of the square every day could I? Sorry Luke :D Still no bikes in the square though? However, saw a few more bikes out today, which is reassuring

IMG2123-XL.jpg

Still bugger all traffic on the Route Napoleon, which is nice :D

IMG2124-XL.jpg

Nothing the other way either

IMG2125-XL.jpg

Last photo as this is 20 minutes from home, and I needed a cuppa badly :drool

My plan B, is looking more like Plan A with each scroll of the mouse! :D

Very nice, you may spot Londoner in your area next month ;)

ha ha, lovely jubbly :thumb Don't get me wrong, I'm Scottish, and I've had some great rides out in Scotland, all over the west coast which is gorgeous... but, and it's a big but, I don't usually take me waterproofs out round here

Great photos. I lived in St Vallier for six years, so lots of memories looking at them. Back there again in June :D

you're just showing off now Rob...

How many kms did you get from the tyres BTW

Don't worry, I'll calm down now. To be honest I've no idea as I hadn't used the 1150 for a good while, having had the 1200ADV for a while before it met it's sorry end:tears I'd reckon about 10,000kms, but that would be the upper estimate. I reckon they don't last as long as the roads are so twisty and tarmac is relatively warm down here, not that I ride that fast these days:augie

I like St Vallier. Nearly moved there before settling on Callian, it's just that bit higher and likely to snow, which would be more difficult getting to school for the kids :D
It's only about 20 minutes or so from where we are, via St Cezaire. Lovely part of the world. :thumb

Clue d'Aiglun is part of a route I had planned for this year so it's good to see some pics of the area and surroundings.
Did you travel the D10 , which I believe is part of the route of the Monte Carlo Rally back in the 70's?

Just stop it, you're using up all the sunshine before the rest of us get there :)

Stu

Hi Jay, nope, I turned off left when I hit the junction of the D5 and D10, however I have some photies from Dec 2003 when I bought the ADV of the D10, here Haven't been on that road since, which is a shame as it's a cracking little road. Note to self, go there, and take better photies this time:D
Still used for some of the rallies though, as is the Col de Bleine.

Thanks for the link Rob :thumb2 I will have a rummage through those pics this evening.

Steady rain and sleet here with the odd patch of sunshine. No sign of it letting up.

So I popped on here and lo and behold Franco your trip report and photos have lifted my day no end.

The maps are out tonight to look at some of them there roads.

Thanks for posting.:thumb

lovely pics and area.

but how do you manage to live with all that sun, being scottish ?

Don't you have to cover up well when you go out ?
do you get massive outbreaks of freckles ?
Surely your white, pasty skin must be burnt to a dry crisp by now ?

;)

Ha ha, my whole body is just one huge freckle now, to the extent I'm a bronzed adonis :D
I don't seem to burn as much as some of my translucent friends who come down from Scotland, sure I must have some Mediterranean lineage somewhere, well, apart from being 6'3"

Still need to wear a hat for the ever-increasing exposed area on me napper though :thumb
