It was the first batch of LC RTs that were the death traps. I believe that every example in the world was issued with a “don’t ride this bike” notice after there were fatalities caused by a rear suspension collapse. The bikes were all off the road for months, not weeks, whilst BMW developed a solution.Had 3 from 2005 to 2012...I guess I am lucky to be alive. I had 2 bikes with the servo system (1150RT, 2003), never had a problem.
To be fair, they handled it pretty well in the circumstances. I guess they were particularly sensitive after the troubled intro of the LC GS and the Kevin Ash incident. It would have been better if they had built the RT properly in the first place though…
