Another design triumph?

Actually I’ve owned four boxers and a parallel twin GS in the last decade.

The RT was a BMW recall because it was (quite literally) a death trap. The 1200GS had at least three recalls that I can remember (fork shims etc). The 1250GS had those foot pegs that kept falling off. The 850 had failed switchgear and leaky auxiliary lights (a problem that the RT and the 1200GS also had).

The only one that has “worked perfectly” is the UGS. I still have it and like it a lot.

As for the 1300, apart from the GSA having looks that only a mother could love, you don’t have to read far on here to get to tales of woe about failed switch gear and panniers that either fall off or don’t work - and that’s after you’ve waited 18 months for them to be delivered. Even replacement engines on factory-fresh bikes.

I’m no GS hater but I am bored with being a factory Beta-tester so I’ve switched brands.

Turns out you can still buy bikes that don’t have to go back to the dealer umpteen times a year and that the paint still sticks to after more than a few days in the rain…

You’re wasting your time with Stroppo !
I dared asked him how the 1300 ASA was a game changer as the only game BMW had changed was try to emulate Honda ,but ended up in the Third Division!

And off he went .
I guess that’s why BMW have a market for such flawed bikes as some are truly blinkered .
The 1300 is perfect , well apart from the faulty switch gear , pannier recall, clunky gear change in ASA and issues with the auto lowering bollox .
Now that is a game changer, when they make it reliable .

I think part of the problem is that even though all brands have problems BMW are particularly good at fixing them, voluntarily

Look at how KTM deal with manufacturing faults, and Honda are notorious for being difficult to get warranty work done, they’ve certainly only issued the airbag recall on the Goldwing because the merkins will sue the shit out of them if someone gets hurt in a bike accident

So yes, most brands have less recalls than BMW

As I posted last year sometime, the easiest solution if you think BMW are shite is ……. don't fucking buy one (y)

True . But most brands have less recalls than BMW because they don’t release half-finished products for blinkered disciples to pay £30K for the privilege of beta testing 😜

And I’ve had at least a dozen BMW bikes , about half of those GSs.
What people like Stroppo fail to realise is most of us found this place because we had a GS . I’d hazard a guess that more than half of us no longer own one due to reasons you stated above .
For me the relentless push for some needless technology, and ridiculous prices have pushed me away . I’d rather they concentrate on the basics like quality and simple stuff like backlit switchgear .
I’ll certainly never buy another new BMW as there are far cheaper and better bikes out there for my needs .
I’m not a GS hater , just don’t like the road they’ve gone down .

:spl1f:737 MAX...fuck yes. Is so shit that they stopped building that piece of flying coffin.

If you have such a hard on why you even bother barfing about. You seem to have a fixation with other peoples choice. Bizarre.

And yes...BMW had more recalls than any other brand. However in the last 10 years none let me down al boxer engines. Maybe I was just lucky.

Had 3 from 2005 to 2012...I guess I am lucky to be alive. I had 2 bikes with the servo system (1150RT, 2003), never had a problem.

My sincere apologies for not having a BMW butt plug rammed firmly up my arse .
You appear to have slipped off my very short ignore list . Matter now rectified 😘

Puch Maxis are shite.
No, they're not. My entire 50+ years of biking started on a Puch Maxi, bought in 1973 for £70 and sold a year later when I was 17 for £65. A 1 year introduction to riding for a fiver. Brilliant. Mates had their faster fizzies, most of which were dropped at some time or another and I was enious at the time, but the Puch was mine, not on HP. A half gallon of petrol was about 20p and 5p for a shot of 2 stroke oil and I was good for another week's riding. Happy days.

...........why cant people have an opinion without making it so personal and critical........? One man's meat and all that.......
Can't we keep the chat the same on here as we would if we met in the real pub or on a Regional meet up...

......I'll get my coat...my hat and my spectacles and testicles.......I'm probably living in f***ing cuckoo land......

....and yes I did but a new 1300 GSA fully loaded, and yes it did cost me a lot of money (my UK offer for the bike was nowhere near the 30K quoted above, but for insurance reasons I chose to buy it in NL), and yes I have got the luggage......and yes, I did enjoy the test ride.
Was it a difficult decision bearing in mind all the issues, of course but i hope many of them have been sorted and so I am looking forward to owning and riding it in a few weeks when it arrives from Berlin....
If its crap and has many faults and spends more time back in the dealership then under warranty I'll have my lawyer mate help me out for a full refund..... ;) ;). He works at one of the top legal companies in the country and a fellow biker........but he rides a Harley....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:...... maybe for a reason.....

I can’t understand why there’s so much vitriol in this forum.
If someone wants to buy a 1300 GS/GSA, fabulous! You want to buy a Voge? Brilliant. It’s just great that we all ride!

Personally I don’t give a flying f@ck what anyone else rides and don’t understand why anyone else should.

Here endeth the lesson
Just be happy we’re all on bikes ……of some brand/colour/cc/cost
If really doesn’t matter

It’s not so much giving a fuck what’s others ride . It’s more taking issue with rather ridiculous statements such as the GS/GSA ASA is a game changer, when Honda have been producing automatic bikes for well over a decade and the Africa Twin for nine years .
It may well be a game changer to someone who can’t look past a BMW roundel, but to declare it a game changer as though BMW have revolutionised motorcycling is plain daft .
Especially when many prospective owners and journos have criticised the clunkiness of the system .
I’m sure BMW will refine it , just as Honda have done for the DCT but it’ll take a few reiterations before it’s as it should be .
Over half of Africa Twins are DCTs and as the ageing demographic who can actually afford to buy the ASA are not getting any younger , then BMW want a slice of the Honda pie .
Now if we’re talking about game changing , then the auto suspension lowering is exactly that and that was a BMW innovation which others are now trying to copy .

I thought Harley were the 1st to introduce lowering suspension on their version of a adv bike ?

Forgotten that one . Ok, cancel that , no games have been changed by the krauts 😜

BMW r1300gs may NOT be a game changer, but as a happy owner of one ( no I don’t have the panniers as I prefer my kreiga soft bags)
I really dont give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks about my choice of bike.
My money, my choice.

Yes, i have had quite a few GSs over the years. The most unreliable one was the first r1200gs…. Fuel pump controller, and ignition key reader both went at different times ( both fixed under warranty with no hassle)

I’ve also owned: Hondas, triumphs, aprillias , moto guzzi, moto Morini ..etc….. many makes and models over many years…..

I don’t judge anyone for what bike they ride…..it’s their choice, and I accept that what’s right for me may not be right for others…..and think that if someone judges me for what i ride then I don’t want to spend time with them as they are too judgemental.

Be glad someone rides a motorcycle, whatever brand, size, colour of bike, and whatever the person, male, female, gay, straight, black, white , asian ( even gingers!) etc , etc,…..there’s enough hatred out there without fighting amongst ourselves.

Chill….and ride safe.
