Another foray into Europe on many wheels!

My parents were at Uni in Edinburgh and said Rose street used to be all pubs and the challenge was to have a half in every pub and not many could do it
I went to college in Livingston Just outside Edinburgh (anyone on here remember MOTEC?) and we had a great many nights out around Rose street area. Great pubs and very friendly young ladies in that area.
A great shame when the college closed down. I think it’s an industrial estate now.

Through London, on to Eurostar and disappeared down the rabbit hole, emerging into a sunny Europe.
Across northern France, into Belgium, via Lille and to Brussels Midi.
Our lodgings for the night is actually part of the station..Hotel Pullman.
The easy bit is done...tomorrow is where it is going to get gnarly, as you will be seeing.
Meanwhile a donder across to the Brasserie de la Gare for a lasagne and carbonara...microwave jobbies but did the job.
Interesting to pass a real European..

He would be rolling in his grave if he could see the ghastly mess his honourable project has morphed into..

A very early start tomorrow....0623 train..

I remember MOTEC well. Many a fond memories of staying there...I was the piss up tour guide for all the English lads.

When did you go there? I went 1977-1979. I was a panel basher but Spanner monkeys, HGV, sparkies, recovery lads all went there too.
Apparently only the top 1% got to go!!! Probably the ones that went were all from main dealers. Initially for me I worked for Ford then Peugeot the garage then became Nissan. I worked on vintage as well as modern, insurance jobs.

I was there at the same time but an HGV mechanic. Enjoyed a game or two of football against the staff there. Brought down one of them in an excellent foul, he was not impressed. He was going to knock my lights out but I managed to get the first punch in. He went down like a sack of spuds...I don't recall his name, but it might come back to me. Apologies for the thread highjack Mr Gerrard 🙏 😅

Always the way that you are in your best sleep when the alarm goes off...
Briskly up and into the adjacent station.
This is the gnarly bit, although reading of the travelling exploits of some on here, my gnarly is mundane!
The huge storms that swept Europe last month did huge damage, particularly further east.
When booked, a civilised day started with an 0823 train, one leisurely change and on to our destination.
Due to storm damage and cancelled trains this has changed to an 0623 train and 2 changes, one of them fairly short, with less reservations

Any how a sleek Db ICE train arrives..

..and we find our seats, set for off spot on time..

Quite empty , comfy train....may doze!

Great travel report Gerard, you’re definitely pretty slick on the typewriter! Must be from experience typing up crime reports over the weekends back in the day?! lol
Similar to yourself and many on here, if not whizzing about frantically on two wheels, I enjoy the tranquility of the train. Unlike airports, the journey starts soon as you walk through the hydraulic doors. No need to weigh your luggage either 😬
Good stuff, but in agreeance with Pete, Cafe Royal would’ve been my choice for beverages and seafood (in EH)

I'm not even starting that conversation with her (my assistant, not yours)

You haven't said where you're heading. If it's Tel Aviv for a sunny autumn break we need to have a quick chat.

Haha! Little chance of me ever wanting to go there!
Not quite that far afield...the truth will out...I hope, although the way the trains are going...25 minutes late at the mo...who knows....still got some slack, but it's decreasing!

And onto the next leg..Munich.
This is where it gets a bit dodgy...couldn't get reservations at the point where I had to rebook after storm issues, but we both managed to get seats in 1st class...just not together! Sighting distance so not a drama..

while the stock on db is good

their timekeeping rivals british rail

was in dusseldorf on monday and while the s bahn was fine the train outta hbf wasnt even close

even the germans complain

autriche ou italie?

bonne journee

And in the last 30 minutes they've cancelled the train...or at least the last 3 stops, including the one I want..we will need to get off this one..which we made by no more than 30 seconds in Munich... in Salzburg, and change, which hopefully will be in the adjoining platform!

Another upside is that by the time we made it up to 1st Class, the only seats left were wheelchair seats with no wheelchairs...next to the bar huge escapey type windows, acres of space! Result!

Note the manly man bag back in operation!
