Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

My sons brought his bike home for the Christmas hols. 6.5 kg and made from lots of expensive bits. I've no idea about bikes but he seems pleased with what he's built. It doesn't have any gears which just seems to be hard work to me.

had my first session on my elite fluid turbo trainer this week and i thought it was brilliant.

i have it set up with my old bike in the workshop so i was able to put my laptop on the bench playing the training video i downloaded off utube. the video is great. it's 45mins. duration and you are riding with some guys as one of them has a camera on his bike. as you go through there is 10 mins. warm up then you go into the "efforts" where you up your work rate for a 90secs. (the duration changes through the workout) there is 90secs. rest between each effort. i was well impressed with the turbo video/session. i used my garmin to display my heart rate so i could gauge my effort and was running at warm up around 110bpm (my resting heart rate is around 55) on general riding about 135 with maximum on the efforts at around 163 which pretty much mirrors what i see when i'm out on the bike except that i have recorded a max hr. of 172/174 a few times.

so, i was a bit dubious about getting the trainer but my experience of it after the first go is very favourable:thumb2
i have now downloaded another video which is a 20 minute workout but of higher intensity so will be giving that a go.

i realise that lots of you peeps will be well aware of turbo trainers but there may be some that aren't but are interested so my first impressions are for them. if it's all in another post, sorry but i had a little look through (it's a big thread) and didn't see anything so hey ho:D

Can any of you tossers recommend a good sizing guide for road bikes? Yes I've tried Google but as ever, too much choice.

Just been to try out a Boardman in Halfords (actually very helpful ) but the one thing they won't let me do is take one out for a 10 mike ride. ;)

Can't decide between the L and XL both of which they had in stock for me to sit on. I'm 6'1" with a 33 inside leg and it feels as if I'm on the cusp between the two sizes so would want to get advice fro tried and tested sources.

Evans will let you ride a bike for a demo

My turbo trainer is the rout to work, done hail rain or shine, but it's usually with the wind in my face either going there or coming back, 13.6 average on my mountain bike!

May get a trainer for chrimbo though!

:thumby::D

as i don't work (other than on this place which keeps me very busy) i don't have the opportunity to ride to work so i have to just get the bike out and go a ride which with all the distractions around here and the short days i struggle to do. so i got the turbo trainer so i can go and "do a bit" in the evening after i finish my jobs for the day and before i settle for the night :D

i will do more on the proper bike when the weather improves and the days lengthen as i did last year and will be putting more effort into doing the time trials i started to do last year. that, i am looking forward to with relish as now i have some "proper gear" to use :thumb2

i by the way got my trainer 2nd. hand so didn't splash too much cash on it:thumb2

If you're looking for some decent videos to follow with some excellent training plans then download the Sufferfest series - quality stuff :thumb

Also 3lc do some good solid DVD sessions with Cav taking part in a few of them.

been and had a butchers, good stuff thank's :thumby:

Don't know if someone has already suggested it but if not... if you're using a turbo trainer get yourself a fan... you'll sweat buckets.

btw, another :thumb2 for Sufferfest.

For anyone Boris Biking in London, they are now up to the third generation (or gen 3, for you tactical types).

Still great value.

And a sweat catcher to cover your cross bar to stop the sweat corroding your frame. And a mat if you're indoors - dampens the noise and catches more sweat.

ok. :thumb2

so far then;

bike...............check
turbo trainer....check
training video..check
water bottle...check
fan...............check
sweat cover...check
mat for floor...check

am i good to go now? :D:D

Just 25 miles (sans squeeze) this morning. It was pissing down and blowing a hooley at times but had brightened up to take a pitcher....

:)

I did just over 16 miles, wet, with plenty of road rivers, attacked by hailstones, turned back when I was getting wheels pin going up the hills, great ride though!:thumb2

Epic, standard or short? :D

I'd love to say the EPIC 125mile one, but realistically the STANDARD 82mile should be doable by then.

The furthest I've ridden in one hit to date is 30miles.
