Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

I've put on 2.5Kg over the Christmas break which for me is not too bad. Did a 20 mile ride yesterday and will be in the gym tonight trying to get back on track!

I had yet another puncture yesterday making that 3 in as many months. I'm using 25mm Continental Gatorskins which are supposed to be fairly robust. Does this seem excessive? I know the roads have a lot of crap on them at the moment but even so its a pain having to replace the innertube when its 2 degrees, howling a gale and you've been sweating a while. On the positive side to that I used a gas cannister to blow it up - so much better than by pumping by hand!

Gator skins are the Tourance of the cycling winter training world. You've def been unlucky so I would persevere anyway.

I got bought a full suspension 21 speed mountain bike for xmas...haven't been out on it yet - its too hot.

Get out there in the cold, wind & rain. Once you get warmed & loosened up it's fantastic. Lezyne light pushing out 500 lumens is like riding under floodlights.

The problem I have with that is I simply don't want too.

and neither do i :pullface

did a training session on the turbo yesterday and had this playing on the laptop.

Each to their own, I'd rather stare at this with the sound off while pedaling for 45mins :augie

That's what I thought was the case. What would you suggest about tyre pressures? I'm running the max at 120psi (for my 220lb weight) but had wondered whether the high pressure was adding to the puncture rate and if 100-110psi might be better. With the last puncture I used the gas cannister to inflate the tube and it was at only 70psi yet I managed to finish the ride OK without further problems and didn't notice any real difference in the ride.

What a bunch of fuckin' gay boys!

Turbo trainers, sore bottoms and strava - Man the fuck up? :dabone

Keep in mind that you're likely talking to the same nancy boys who turn back on a rideout after encountering a single drop of rain.

120 is q high for the winter and is normally used for 23 mm tyres in the summer. I use 25 mm GatorSkins on my winter bike and never exceed 105 psi as it makes this a bit more comfortable and still more than adequate for winter training. I would reduce the psi and see how you get on. Most of my club mates use GatorSkins and we haven't had a collective puncture for a few months. I weigh a bit less than you tbh weight isn't really the issue re punctures. Watch where you're going and inflate to 100psi and all should be well. Re night riding I generally avoid it unless its a group training run.

Chain broke today

Just getting to the brow of a hill on the way back on a 33 miler today... all forward motion stopped and my legs were just spinning. Stopped, looked back to see my chain lying on the road. Just as well I had a good multi-tool with a small chainsplitter plus a KMC Quick Link. Back on the road fairly quickly.

Were you clipped in and did you get a chance to clip out before falling over?

It was exactly this hill/chain/clips scenario that got me a dislocated and fractured shoulder 18 months ago. And the fact that I was new to SPDs at the time.

Oh yes.....and the fact that I put my arm out to take the brunt of 16 stone heading for the tarmac.

Yes I was clipped in but no problems, no dramas. I just gently came to a halt. I was in the saddle at the time and it might have been a bit more uncomfortable if I'd I'd been out of the saddle.

Where I came to a stop was a bit awkward but across the road there was a grassy bank so I fixed it there. The nice thing was that whilst I was fitting the Quick Link about six sets of cyclists came by and EVERY one of them slowed and asked if I was OK and did I need any help.:thumb2

this "nancy boy" would probably not even go out if rain was threatened. fook riding in the pissing rain when you don't have to :nenau

If you hadn't done that, you might have suffered a broken femur as a result. Go on, ask me how I know. :(

Cold and wet 16.5miles this morning. Big toes still numb even with goretex socks.. Got a flyby from the boys in blue though..:thumb
