Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

I've no idea what my cadence or heart rate is. I've only gone for the cheapie garmin :augie

Polar heart rate monitor and the Polar Beat app and pretty cost effective.

And one of these (used to counter what its leaning against)

So what are the best steroids to use and what sort of dosage?
If I join a local club run is it a good idea to do a load of amphetamines at the start of the ride to reduce the chance of coming home last? :augie :D :D :D

Just been out and done 50KM at 26KMH all in zone 2 of my heart rate. If you keep going out and doing easy rides without pushing yourself you will condition yourself to do the same rides quicker at the same effort. Then when you need to go faster you will as you have done efficient training.

Awesome :thumb2

I have been passed by the same guy twice while I've been walking up it, Both times we've exchanged pleasantries.

First time he saw me I laughed and said "it has beaten me" he replied "we've all been there".....second time I said "Nope, still not happening" he replied "it'll come, keep at it"........... I bet I don't see him again now I can ride up.

I'm top 10 on Strava for the descent (it is proper scetchy in places and I'm a thrill seeker, I know I'm too old to think/act like this but can't help myself)....I'm now 75th for the climb :aidan

There's no way I'll ever be in the top ten on Sugarloaf. That's the hill racers use to practice on, and it's also part of the route for the 100 mile race they have every year. A local racer tells me that anyone who can climb that hill at double digit speeds is considered 'fast'. The Strava record is 16.1 mph. :bow:bow:bow I could only average 7.3 mph, but I was already dead tired from all the other hills we'd climbed that day. I'll be back this weekend on a pair of fresh legs to see if I can set a respectable PR.

Ironically, I just nipped down my local Lidl's in my break for a looksee and they're selling wireless heart rate monitors (for cycling, running etc) for the princely sum of £12.99. So, one impulse purchase later, I will try it out tonight to see if it makes me go faster :D

Forgot to say - it has a 36 month warranty....did you hear that BMW?

Thanks for the heads-up.
I'll grab one on the way home tonight :thumb2

Loving it, I rode back from the pub last night after a couple of pints of Guinness, i dont think my performance was very enhanced at all.
Heres the scroungebike in all its glory, I have just refitted the steel mudguards and panniers in an effort to slow it down :D

Nicely done :Motomartin

I took the cheap bell off that came with mine as I'm sure it will help my 17 stone frame go all the more quicker.

make sure you remove the reflectors front and rear and the on the wheels...this also increases performance massively.

quite like the look of this one....

always wanted a ktm....altho the one with the 990 engine was the preferred choice!

90 is excessive. I thought 40-60 was optimum.

A mate of mine who's very much into his cycling insists 90 is 'best', his advice having been taken from many hours of research & magazines,

Personally I find 70-80 is just perrrrrfect for me, particularly on a ride of any decent distance.

I was only quoting what I thought I had read somewhere. Ignore me :blagblah

As I said, I've got no idea what my cadence is. I just try to go as fast as I can for as long as I can.

Sorry, I wasn't having a dig. Just adding my two'pennys worth. What I know about it you could write on the back of a postage stamp.
1) Buy a bike that fits you
2) Buy a bike that's comfortable
3) Get some clothes you're comfortable riding in
4) Go ride the bike
5) As you start to do bigger distances make sure you 'take on board enough fuel'.

Optimum cycling cadence is 85-95.

Some people use 100 in time trials but its up to the individual.

Armstrong pioneered a faster cadence for hill climbing but then again that might not be the best example :blast

I've pioneered a slower cadence for hill climbing. The steeper & longer the hill the slower my cadence. :rob

I've got a cannondale road warrior that I use for a bit of cycle touring and camping and a Schwinn mountain bike that use for the local tracks and woods. It all helps keep my fat back at bay. Unlike motorcycle riding and touring.

You definitely think a lot harder about what you put in the panniers when you have to haul around manually.
