Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

I must say I was well impressed with the speed of the bloody thing and the way it free wheeled,if that makes sense.
I've only done the one ride but it was much more comfortable over the same rutted roads than my hybrid, which itself wasn't a bad spec.
The new bike has a special VCLS seatpost which is split and seems to cushion the rider more.

I'd love to enter the Boris 100.When is it and when do entries need to be in by ?

Would love to get a bike for the tracks around here and for using in the winter when it's wet.Canyon do a range of cyclocross bikes.
The cheapest one even comes with mudguards for the winter.Might be a nice xmas pressie !!!

Which Endurace model is it & what 2015 groupset? ;)

It's the cheapest one,the CF8.0 which features The latest 11-speed 105 groupset from Shimano is all new for 2015 and comes with re-designed brake levers for even better control.

Supposedly the new 105 is midway between the old 105 and Ultegra.

All I know is it's a bloody nice bike at a price many £100s cheaper than a similar specced bike in the UK.

Shimano hand the old technology down to the next groupset when updated. For example, the 2011 Dura-Ace on my racer is no better than the Ultegra on my 2014 Caadx (even has the carbon levers & has 11 speed)
I think you've done well buying a Canyon, great spec for the money. I buy all my bikes blind as the shops never have any stock of what I'm after.
I was in Leisurelakes on Friday and there are a lot of near 2 grand bikes with Sora & Tiagra kit on them.
105 is a good set & the likes of Specialized seem to want well over 2k for bikes fitted with it. I think Ultegra is worth the extra money, but wouldn't advise anyone to go Dura -ace - Don't get me wrong it is fantastic ... but not twice as good unlike the price difference!

Every time I buy a new bike I'm slow until I get used to it - You'll be banging out 17mph in a couple of weeks! :beerjug:

My road bike finally arrived ! Had to wait 6 weeks from ordering as it's a new model with the 2015 groupset (apparently)

Anyway,I've just been out on the short 15 mile loop that I used to do on my Trek hybrid before I sold it 6 weeks ago.

The fastest I ever did it on the old bike was 1hr and 1 minute and I did it on the new bike in 53 minutes and wasn't trying too hard as I've not ridden for 6 weeks and was making sure that everything was set up ok after i built in after delivery.

Very pleased.Longer ride tomorrow.

(and before any clever comments,I've adjusted the bars down a bit after the photos were taken and I had ridden it,and I know having a bag under the seat may be frowned upon but I don't give a shit and it carries a spare tube plus multi tool and tyre levers !)

Wow that's a very special forces stealth road warrior type of a cycle....:D

I'm only averaging 14 MPH on my new Scott Solace 30 2014 model, I've only covered 40 miles on it though thus far. Really happy with it and the 105 group set even if it is out of date already.. :blast

The top figures are from my first and only ride on the Stealth Bomber last night. The lower figures are the fastest time I previously did on my hybrid.Route is a quite hilly loop in Sussex:

Heading out now for a longer ride including bloody Ditchling bloody Beacon !

The flat bits are where the horses and carts took their breath without fear that the cart would run back down the hill.

You can do the same!

:D

Had a nice day out.Took it steady but still knackered now !!!!

As you're in Manchester can I be so bold as to recommend a 'Taster Session' at the Velodrome near City's ground?
I went a few weeks ago and had an absolute ball. It's as near to playing at Wemberlee as most of us will get.

Actually, I did!

Even though it was honking down, I knew that, for me, I was going well and having no bike issues.

Kerry, who'd never ridden more than 50 miles, said to me a couple of weeks ago, that she'd NEVER do the Boris 100 again. But she was sooooo chuffed to have completed the event, like me without incident, that she'll be chucking an entry in for next year.

I suspect things would be rather different if, like 1,000s of others, we'd had punctures or, worse, a crash.

I've entered for next years event after reading some of the threads on bike forums, especially bike radar.
Are you HertsG on that site by chance?

Don't worry about "average speed" as a measure of performance; the way it's calculated involves too many variables to make it meaningful. A much better indicator is the maximum speed you can sustain on a level surface. The best measure of performance is the amount of power you can put out over a given time period, because that number will not vary according to the way the wind is blowing, the gear you're in, or whether you're climbing or descending. Unfortunately the only way to know your power output is to purchase an expensive power meter.

Indeed I am.

My entry went in early this morning. My squeeze, having said a month ago 'never again', also put her entry in this morning. I personally know 8 others who have also entered - two of them haven't even got bikes yet!

Don't think I'm ready to take Chris Hoy on just yet ! I'm a season card holder at City, but I'm ashamed to say I've never set foot in the velodrome .
I could maybe take a peek though.
My first object is reaching a good fitness level, if I enjoy that challenge I'll buy a winter hack and keep cycling in the winter months where possible. ;)

Understood... Thanks.

I'll keep building my fitness then maybe go more in-depth.

I try to vary my routes a little, but I use one route to measure miles v time to cover. I'm keeping it simple, ie 10 mile route but trying to reduce time to cover it equates to improved fitness, strength and speed.
Pretty simple but a good first stage measurement of my improved performance... I hope ! :blast

Thanks for the reminder. :thumb2

It was the term " my squeeze " that give it away!
I'm thinking of booking some accommodation in the hope I get through as I'm sure I'll struggle once the ballot results come out.
