It’s La Mariseca on map above .

Think this was a starter to share 😜

Cheers Arsey, had a nice steak there too last night.

A nice Rioja, pizza for Mrs Berin and steak and chips for €35.

Keep the recommendations coming folks. I'm there in May for a couple of nights.

It's a fascinating City, a seat of learning.

Possibly not very imaginative on our part, but we have always used the Parador, to the south side, over the Roman Bridge, which has fine views as well as a locally themed menu. Years back there were plenty of small eateries, but much has changed as new build areas (the slums of tomorrow) have slowly encroached.

I like Paradores and will use some on my trip in May. For Salamanca, I have booked the Casino hotel recommended by @Arsey using some reward points that were due to expire.

Looked at that but it was a bit far out of town. We’re at the Palacio de San Esteban, which is just a few minutes from the cathedral and Plaza Mayor and has a gated car park, so fine for the bikes.

We had a nice glass of wine and a tapas plate each in Nero right on the square before going to the Mariseca and it was delicious, about €12.

Salamanca old town is lovely, but the outskirts, as with any town these days, are not so nice.

This is a grand bar for a quiet pint.

Last night we are at the Oslo tapas bar just off the square and back to
Nero on the square. Oslo had good tapas, a nice Ribera and a friendly owner. I think 3 tapas, 1 big beer and 2 glasses of red were about €18

The pulled pork tapas at Nero is excellent, service is good, and for its location it’s not dear.

Since my enlistment into my regiment, Salamanca and Talavera have always meant a lot to me and my brethren. Most years our Essex regiment association provide both serving and veterans from the Royal Anglian Regiment (Essex Rg 44th of foot) for the annual parade each year, And at Battalion HQ on the 22nd of July each year, Salamanca dinner.
Salamanca is a stunning city, with so much history. Can easily spend a week exploring.
The Salamanca battlefield hasn't changed much in 200 years. Sharing a sip of port to my fallen comrades.
And go to the Cathedral to see the spaceman engraved in the walls !

I passed this place last week, but could not make my mind up what to buy so gave it a miss. 5 minute walk from the Roman bridge if you get caught short. Are the window bars to stop you getting in or out?

Makes me laugh that space man addition, it is still the subject of conspiracy, despite it being added in 1992. :D I reckon they were having a laugh when they did that.(y)

There was an English guide there when I took the picture, she was telling them its a joke, but also admitted that there are people that really believe the conspiracy :ROFLMAO:

Arrived at the Casino hotel, as @Arsey suggested. The old Street view pics showed a car park at the front of the hotel but newer ones show it is now pedestrianised. A holding area for geriatrics waiting for the coaches in the nearby parking bays. I have parked 100m away in free motorcycle parking. Happy with this as Spain. Only 3 spaces and all in use when I arrived so parked behind on the pavement. Scooters left and some manky 650 arrived. Coconut if you can guess the make. My bike now legally parked. Something to be aware of especially if a group. Hotel has lots of space for bikes in the courtyard but won't make it available.
