Anyone fitted a NN Hugger?

Bought said hugger and it arrived yesterday from Normans, good sevice as usual.

The hugger mounts to the rear brake torque arm. To fit you need to remove the two torx bolts holding the brake line cover in place. The problem is that one of the bolts is next to the rim an I cant get my torx key in. It is looking like I need to take out the back wheel to get the mounting bracket installed. I can't believe that this is necessary.

Has anyone else fitted one of these huggers? Did you manage it without removing the wheel, if so how?

I fitted Nippy Normans Hugger about 3 weeks ago, Yes you have to remove the rear wheel, I also thought it better to make a couple of cut outs in it so that it could be fitted with the brake hose holder still in position and reuse the torx bolts which are stainless. I also thought it better to spray it satin black first so it doesn't stand out so much.

Hi alan I fitted mine a couple of weeks ago and had to remove the back wheel which is handy enough to do. The hugger now has a piece that has worn through so im really pissed off about this but it does make a difference as it stops alot of the shit coming up onto you.

I bought a fibreglass hugger from NN about 9 months ago. Cost £99. Nine months later and not only has it worn a hole though the front end, but it has split around the connecting bolts. Should have spent the extra and bought a genuine BMW one!!

Hope this helps. As you can see it doesn't stop it all, but stops a fair amount of the crap that used to fly over the seat etc. Next step is the number plate extension or a 6' x 4' number plate!!

Edit: I'm also wondering if it would be possible to bridge the gap between hugger and crap catcher thing at the back?

I fitted NN hugger a few months back and I too wasted a few hours trying to fit it without removing the back wheel. Was pissed off as nothing in the instructions mentions this important point. I had to buy a new torque wrench and wheel brace to get the wheel off and on - much easier than I'd expected to be fair as I'm not a DIY mechanic at all.

Anyway when I came to fit it the poor quality became apparent as the screw holes didn't meet up quite properly with the bracket so in the end I had to bodge it on. Tempted to send it back but I was so fed up with all the dicking around and expense I've left it on. Total crap and I wish I'd never wasted my money.

I fitted mine without taking the wheel out, (I think I used a short allen key?) the holes lined up and so far it hasn't cracked / snapped or chafed, so maybe they aint all bad! As for how much crud it stops, well some, just not it all!

Yep fitted one too. In fairness I thooght the finish was OK - everything lined up.

Still got covered in crud which was not something I expected - or not as much anyway. still I came to a GS from an LT on which you did not even get wet when it was chucking it down.

The only poor design factor was the brake hose which they give you a tatty cable tie to retain it with. Ilmberger may be the way to. Anyone fitted one of their long ones?

Hi Guys,

Took delivery of my NN fiberglass hugger a day or two ago. When I went to fit it I discovered I didn't have a torx spanner big enough to get the back wheel out, so had to buy a new set.

I must say the whole thing lined up perfectly and went on without any problem. I think it looks good too. Only small critisisims are :- 1. Don't like having to permanently remove the brake hose plastic protector, 2. It would look better if the fitting bracket was powder coated in black.
