Hi all !!

checked the rear pads (1150gs ) -abs and the one half of the pad material has a crack in the middle runing the full lenth of the pad material !!
I searched and found a few bike posting over the web saying the pads are rubbish and dangerous ext.....
anyone else had this problem with EBC or is it just internet crap talk ???

the pads are about 3/4 left & done about 2000 mls ??
cheers
John

looks like EBC pads are ok after 89 reads and no horror stories.
still ordered Ferodo pads as replacement :drool:drool:drool

btw anyone in the midlands may want to go to the Classic Motorcycle Show
Saturday 24th April/Sunday 25th April 2010 - Stafford County Show Ground, Staffordshire,

I'm going on Saterday if anyone wants to meet up.
just got to stop or i'll drive right past having dodgy brakes :blast:blast

cheers

The only thing i've heard that's negative is that the sintered ones wear the disc too easily.

yup, true:thumb2
cracked pads are a lot more common than people think, on all makes,,
the only pads to be wary of in my opinion are FREN

As stated the HH EBC seem to wear the discs far quicker than the pads. The other EBC ones are a bit crap in my humble op. Those Goldfren ones seem to be brilliant at wearing both the pad and the disc really quick. I now stick to Ferodo and have good brakes and no cracks!

Wouldn't dream of using them ....

For the very problems mentioned ....

My rear ebc pads also cracked down the middle on my 1100GS
that was excess heat,
which is the usual cause when iv seen this .....
usually been a sticky brake or a heavy foot somewhere along the line,,,,
iv seen a few pads actually separate from the metal,
one lad cancelled his order as he had glued it back on and it was "ok"
(he was back in the next week)

Only pads i've seen do that have been genuine BMW pads. Used to see it fairly regularly, but not for a while now. They must use different glue :D

installed the ferodo ones and see its two bits of pad with a gap where the EBC one piece cracked , spose thats a good idea ???? but its also got 'holes' in the back for pad material to use to hold them in , (bit hard to explain)

anyway who needs back brakes !

Those are wear guides. The friction material pops out when they are low. When you can see the disc through the holes the pads need replacing. :thumb

EBC HH are good pads, but you really won't do better than buying Ferodo pads from Steptoe :thumb

So what's the concensus, stick to BMW oem pads?? I have a 1200RT now and the bike has just done 12K and the nearside front pads will need changing soon. The offside front ones have more meat in them for some reason, but I will probably replace all 4 pront pads at the same time or is that a waste of money?

I had heard that EBC were the ones to go for but now am not so sure! I guess the BMW ones are the most expensive ones??

Now done 39,500 miles on the original BMW pads :thumb

Ride like a wuss? Nah ... gone through eight rear tyres

BMW ones the most expensive? Nah ... just best value for money :thumb
