Anyone Hilltopped a Watercooled GSA Yet? Thoughts?

It's the "before" figures which always seem far too low compared to other dyno tests. Everyone seems happy with the final results though, so I may get mine Hilltopped next year (although I could be naughty and get it dyno tested locally before and after too)

As an alternative to Hilltop I can now offer adaptive tuning (it tunes the engine `on the fly` - something Hilltop can`t do, once it`s tuned it`s tuned) or a simple gizmo that sorts out the fuelling in the closed loop range - i.e up to 6000 RPM.

It`s brill, i`ve tested it myself and it works, awesomely.

And it comes with a blanking plug so you can revert the bike back to the OEM map.

Costs a sh*tload of money though, but you don`t have to retune the bike every time you put something new on the bike like a free flow filter etc etc

It`s on my site on the tuning tab if anyone is interested..............

It might be worth talking to Geoff at Hilltop in order to understand what it is he offers. What he does is not strictly speaking a 're-map' ie he does not load a new map onto the ECU.
My understanding is that it's fully adaptive (ie works with the engine 'on the fly' as you put it), that it does operate below 6,000 rpm AND defo does not need resetting if you remove the Cat/change air filter etc etc

Not being a MOTO GP rider I didn't think I would notice any difference in a marginal increase in power and torque I went out of concern that I may have made the bike run dangerously lean...which I had.

However it has transformed the bike in that the power delivery is so smooth especially at the lower end of the rev range which is often where you use it on overtakes etc.

I was pleased and went in as sceptical as to whether I would appreciate any difference.

Andres, that`s spot on fella - the only thing I would add is that one of the kits I can fit ONLY works within the closed loop range (and it`s called the `Easy` but try fitting it......) and is better suited to a GS(A) with just an Akra back box. We tried this last weekend on a run up to the Scotch borders with amazing results (yeah I know I would say that but it`s true!) - I was asked to test the kit by a major retailer and I liked it that much I offered my services to the importer as their `specialist` BMW Boxer installer - and they ripped my arm off!

Already done three installs and I`m hoping for a fellow Tosser to put his results on later once he`s given it a full test.........

Easy £339 fitted
Evo £555 - £614 fitted
Racing £686 - £745 fitted

Most only need the `Easy`, some the Evo (that`s self adapting & uses the Lambda`s instead of blanking them out) and the racing is only really needed for the S1000RR jockies.

Needless to say it`s fitted very very properly and professionally.................

Mark,

From my rushed reading of their website I thought that the 'Easy" solution wasn't self adaptive but relied on the operator to make adjustments via the two controllers. Sort of like the piggy back systems. The 'Evo' though is self adaptive and comes with other capacity that might not be that useful, quickshifter, launch control etc.

To simply be able to have the bike adjust better to the emissions leaning, and hence get rid of the hiccups, which one do you reckon would be the best?

Cheers, Simmo

After reading this post, i spoke with Mark - who was professional and friendly.
He advised me that the ´easy´would be the one to go for if the bike is stock (slip on Akra and GSAP).

As i am a looooong way from Hilltop - it seems the RapidBike Easy will be a good solution to smooth out the bikes fueling/surging & hunting issues.
So i purchased one from him and once installed, i will post my thoughts on the forum.

Mark´s enthusiasm really sealed the deal for me & i can´t wait to try it !

It sounds like the AF XIED units I have fitted but with the added benefit of being self optimising rather than having manual settings. If it delivers the same results you will not b dissapointed but it will likely take a tankfull or two to adapt all of the closed loop settings.

I don´t need too much convincing to go through 2 tanks of fuel over the weekend :moped: :)

Hi eisen77,

I'm like you, a long way from Geoff at Hilltop. I too would be very interested to see how you get on with the "Easy " . Are you fitting it yourself ? or do you have a specialist to fit it ?

Please keep us all informed.

Pleased to see there are more options available and interested also to hear about the outcome.

320 mile round trip to get my '13 GS Hilltoped. Did a lot of research and spent a lot of time sifting thru all the comments I could find. End result was well worth the money and I'd do it again - more cheaply BTW as subsequent bikes taken back to Geoff are £100 cheaper.

Best of luck and I hope the benefits are just as good.

I will certainly post my findings once i´ve given the system time to tune itself.
I am having a mechanic do the install & Mark has offered me as much help as we need via telephone.

I´m glad to hear the Hilltop worked for you. I have also read good things about them.

I share the same thoughts as you Sven, I think that you should go with the naughty idea and publish your findings. :augie

Btw I'm that much 'taken' by how they all work I'm buying an 'easy' for my r9t and my F800GSA (I always thought that was a little flat) and I will let people know what I think - do not think they are 'easy' to fit coz they aren't! Either get someone who knows what they are doing or get me to fit it (but I will charge sadly) if you get someone else to fit it that's fine, just make sure you know you can ring me for help and advice to avoid a lash up! It's very difficult to do the wiring properly without a ramp good tools experience and up to four hours of patience! I'm always at the end of a phone 07713 789365

Although I have had a GS-LC Hilltopped, what I like about Mark's 'easy' is that I presume that you can remove it each time you change your bike to fit it to the next bike, I change my bike every 12 months or so, and getting each one hilltopped could prove quite expensive.

However my new 2017 E4 GS is the best so far...very smooth fueling all the way through the rev range, although to gain a little extra power is always nice, providing it is with a nice smooth delivery.

I look forward to reading a few more posts on this new device.

Mine too. I've had all my previous bikes hilltopped but I am nervous about doing anything to my E4 as it is so good I don't want to chance making it worse.

I've had mine done, and it's made it even better. I do have the full Akra though.:green gri
