Airport Cafe near Sellinge - nowhere near that Goggle map, by the way - is one of my favourite haunts. No good scenery, no nice views, but lovely traditional fry-ups and plenty of parking.
Take the A20 towards Ashford from Junction 11 M20, the cafe is opposite the new rubbish recycling plant.

IIRC, the plentiful parking is by way of a sloped brocken tarmac (oakdene-esq) car park as well.

Maybe it's Lydd Airport you have in mind
Now re-branded as London Ashford Airport even though it has only one scheduled flight - to Le Touquet I think. Plans to develop it to cope with 2m passenger a year by 2014.
Nice cafe. Great 'biking roads in the area.

London Ashford Airport deserves a prize for pushing the location-stretching titles of airports to a new level. Not only is Ashford bloody miles from London, but the airport is bloody miles from Ashford as well!
Airport Cafe, Sellinge: possibly not doing the best ever marketing job here
D) but they do a lovely breakfast. The main car park is indeed a combination or broken tarmac and mud (in winter) and dust (in summer) but there is an area of proper concrete at the front where I always park.

In 1979 an EP9 crashed at lydd.
Long story, short.
There had been a problem with the plane and the engineer had fixed it and wanted to take a test flight.
The parachute club owner, Alex Black didn't want to lose money flying an empty plane so took up a plane load of students.
Five students and instructor, Alex Black (pilot) and the engineer. All were killed in the crash.
Scary thing was, i'd crashed in the same plane in 1977 on the south downs outside worthing

Lydd is a "proper" airport - concrete runway, terminal, control tower and everything. Everything except planes, that is, although there are expansion plans under debate.
Headcorn's runway is the result of nothing more complicated than a lawnmower. Headcorn was where I did my first ever parachute jump. And my last one, too. In fact, my only one. The plane didn't crash, and I survived too.

How about we do one cafe at a time and then we can post up our Michelin quality rating for all to see.
We could start with Headcorn on Sunday 25th April, trouble is that I don't know what time it opens. Should we post up an open invite, Jim will be along for sure and we might be able to tempt JoeC down from the suburbs.

It's a quiet day on the office today ...
there were 2 airports near Ashford: Ashford Aerodrome, at Lympne, with zoo park right next door, and Lydd Airport, in Lydd.
Lydd Airport is still running now called London Ashford Airport, Ashford Aerodrome has been long closed and converted into industrial units.
I believe the parachuting was done out of Ashford Aerodrome in Lympne, at least that is where the EP9 accident occcurred, link to AAIB report
It doesn't help when there is a cafe near the old Ashford Aerodrome called the Airport Cafe, and there used to be Lydd Airport Cafe at Lydd airport - that may have now been upgraded to Biggle's Bar.
The Airport Cafe near Lympne is a good provider of old-fashioned artery hardner breakfasts. They also clean and leave their empty 15/20 litre plastic cooking oil containers out for anyone that wants it. Useful for campsite water, but a bit big for a bike...
