i liked the loop we did around alnmouth station? i enjoyed the run out but i see the weather got a lot better when we got to gods part of northumberland

For those who might have missed them if you were quick enough you might have spotted Chipchase Castle,Elsdon Castle, Edlingham Castle, Etal Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle, Warkworth Castle, Morpeth Castle,Mitford Castle and Wallington Hall.

The ones we missed (which Mort will have to include when he does it properly were Chillingham Castle (too busy doing the ford) Ford and Etal Castles (wrong turn out of Wooler) and Belsay Hall (couldn't be bothered).

PS Mort. No modifications mind you. Visitors will expect nothing less than gravel, fords and farm tracks

For effect though IMHO (with subsiquent photo opportunitys), you can't beat the big 4, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Alnwick & Warkworth.

No, not Wales. If I was going to get lost, and I'm not saying I wouldn't, you'd have plenty of warning. The ferry from Stranraer to Larne would be a dead giveaway

If you want to extend the day Hermitage Castle is a good addition to the list, not Northumberland but worth the ride through Kielder and up the Hermitage water valley.
Amazing castle,one of my favourites and the best example of a Border stronghold still standing IMHO

Did a little recce today THE BIG FOUR PLUS ONE. Had an ice cream at holy island cause way as it was high tide. had a good chat to the ice cream vendor who also owns the catering van on the island. I got his number as he said if we ring him the day before with the numbers he would make sure he had enough bait for the posse that are doing the castle and coast route. And if we ring from bamburgh he would start getting them ready for when you get there
1 Warkworth 2 Dunstonburgh 3 Bamburgh 4 Lindisfarne I KNOW ITS FROM A DISTANCE BUT THE BLOODY TIDE WAS IN 5 Alnwick just a taster of whats to come
