Any body got any experience with using a Tour x with a Autocom system , rider to pillion plus a MP3 player, your comments are appreciated.

No, but if Autcom works with a Roof Boxer helmet which has to be the noisiest helmet in the world , you shoud have no problem.I use Mobile Phone/iPod/Radio/plus Pillion chat !

Yes, I use an Autocom system with a Tour X (I've also used it on a Roof Boxer) No Problem whatsoever. I use a MP3 Jukebox with radio on it plus a Streetpilot 3 and 2 way radio. I also have a lead for my mobile phone and when riding at reasonably legal speeds, nobody would ever guess that I was on a bike.....Great when bunking off work.

How do you guys set up the boom Mic on the Boxer???

I've got a boxer and a concept and i haven't really set them up with my autocom yet cos i'm still waiting for the earplug monitors to do it properly...but as they say the 'loud spot' is so critical with the mic, i was wondering how you ensure the mic comes down and gets in the same postion everytime you flip up/down?

I was thinking a bit of velcro on the back of the mic to stick on the inside of the chinny bit but that would be a PITA every flip.

I wouldn't have said the mike positioning was quite as sensitive as the speakers. It does need to be just about touching your lips, but I've never found it to be a problem on either flip or open face helmets. You can usually just put a finger behind the wire and nudge it into position .

Do you have any pics of your set up etc, where is MP3 tank, h/bars ? how does it work with rider - pillion is the boom uncomfortable.
Iam a novice at this any tips will be greatly appreciated.

I find the extra visibilty with a Tour X allows me to text messages easier with my phone in a Baglux map holder, Tkc 80's and ABS brakes help too as does she ->

Neil, sorry can't post any pics at the moment as I'm still waiting to get my bike back from the shop after a breakdown a couple of weeks back, However..... I have installed the autocom in my top box, it mean the box is no longer quick release, but I never take it off anyway. I ran a power lead from the battery via an in line fuse which powers the Autocom and an auxiliary ciggy lighter socket. The whole set up is held to the back of the box with velcro. That is Autocom, Radio, MP3 player and socket. If I pug the phone into the Autocom I usually just wrap it in a spare neck tube or similar. Another lead runs from my Streetpilot, under the tank and seat to the box so that Bitchin' Betty can give me directions. All the leads exit the top box through a hole in the base, through which the passengers headset lead can be retracted when riding solo.

I found that if the lead is left out in all weather the pug soon just rusts away.

Phew....... Hope you can make some sense of that lot. If your still interested in pics I'll post some when the bike's back on the road, hopefully this weekend

With the boom mike and a flip up lid, the mike stays in place by your mouth , only the front of the helmet goes up.The boom is a fairly rigid but bendy afair which holds itself in place once one end is stuffed inside your helmet by your cheeks. Sorted!!!!!

MX Lid

Anyone mounted Autocom in a 'proper' MX lid ?
Sure it'll need the open face kit, and presumably work just as well. Just a Q for the new lid.
Undoubtably superb intercom, but needs to to be bike wired as Autocoms murder batteries compared to our old Sonic.

Update : I bought another headset (£50 odd) for me Lazer MX5, with the optional open-face'sock'. It works, but needs fettling for VOX etc and speaker positioning. Quite feasable even in full MX lids.

an alternative

Starcom are a good alternative to autocom - just got a pair of sets for evaluation . First impressions are good. Will post a more detailed appraisel in a few days - they have offered UKGS club a 10% discount as well. Watch the discount forum for details.
Much better price than autocom.
