Additional Septic Control.

Basically a shite traction control designed primarily for our US and A brethren who like to have such a feature ruin a perfectly good machine :

Sorry, I completely disagree, living on the coast of Belgium and riding to work all year round to the docks of Zeebrugge, I get to experience many different road conditions. This can be as diverse as riding along metal tram rails which I regularly pass over or even ride along on my way to work, to diesel, spilt from the many trucks which use the same road space as myself.
Having previously crashed on spilt diesel, anything which can help a rear wheel slide from happening, is, in my book a good safety aid and for me €310 well spent!

BTW - How can something which can be turned off at anytime, "ruin a perfectly good machine"?

Hello there.
Can anyone say anything about this ASC feature ? It has been around long enough to give some clues on it's use with early adopters.
I expect to be working out the options with my dealer for a 2008 Adv in November, after the EICMA.
I lean towards not ordering ASC and will attend a 2 day enduro training in Hechlingen Germany. But then again, perhaps someone has very good experience with ASC ?

just get it, its fine and if it only gets you out of a hole once in your riding life, it will probably have been worth it. i have lit it once on a section of road that was totally submerged under water. the engine note changes, the bike tells you "you should be going slower mate" and then you do.

I saw some mumbling on the various boards that says in the new models it comes as the "safety package" along with ABS and TPC.

the only time it gets in the way is off-road (it has an off-road mode) and if you fancy doing wheelies (in which case you switch it off).

Thanks ! This is feedback I can use. The ASC has been around for a year now, so I don't expect to be a Beta tester for this new gadget although the system is limited. TPC also had it's fair share of issues as I've picked up here and there (not working with spoked wheels, failures etc.) .

If there is anyone else with ASC, please step forward and voice your opinion.:D

I've not heard of many failures of TPC, the spoked wheels thing i think is sorted now too. the early adopters got hit at the start of this year -there are stories of people who ordered TPC but their dealer had to take it off and had no response / idea on how to put it back. advrider has a few...

i have the solid alloys. it means i check the pressures every time i ride (which is every day). i really like the feature, my only tiny grumble with it is that the display says it is called "RDC" when you have a problem, which stands for something in German. you get a little icon of a flat tyre though, so its obvious whats going on. as soon as my pressure dipped below 2.0bar it started to moan - this is a good thing. i understand it automatically compensates for the air temperature too - something that the pressure gauges at garages / etc normally don't do (??).

Gave it a good thought, and considering the nasty sum I have to pay anyway on top for a new GSA after trading in my F800ST, I will take the full monty (extra lights, rdc, asc, abs, alarm, led's, bc and heated grips) with the alu-white magnesium colored bike, hoping the color will still exist in 2008. Don't care if the options will be seen as extra value for a future buyer. This bike will have to last for some time to come.

The only option I will not go for would be the chrome exhausts and, if newly introduced for 2008 GS, the ESA option.

:D

I like your spec. It is what I will get, but why don't you just add chrome exhausts too? They should be easier to look after.

I know, it's a GSA and it should be dirty, but....

Thought about that. Prefer the brass/golden look of the normal pipes, instead of the blue coloring chrome. They go very well with the Magnesium colored kneecovers on the non-red GSA . :D

Dunno, to be honest. I think the Alpine made way for the new Red and the Alu-White/Magnesium will stay. Who knows, the GS(A)'s are selling so well that BMW may start offering more default colors. We should know this afternoon after the BMW Press Conference. :D
