Afternoon all,

I'm not brilliant with vehicle wiring so I'd like to talk through a plan & then ask for your comments / suggestions etc.

So I have a pair of fog lamps to add to the dip beam on the GS, bought them a while ago. After my "good ged it's dark" ride at night, I've also bought a couple of fairly inexpensive spots that should assist the main beam somewhat. HID will come but later.

I've also got a nice new mounting point on the GS under the beak (an NN mounting bar). Yesterday I ordered a couple of 5 blade relays with twin make & break from vehicle wiring product's all new, all singing and dancing online ordering webthing.

So here's the plan for fitting all four lights:

1. Physically mount lights
2. Disconnect battery
3. Run a +ve cable from battery to relay for fogs
4. Do same to other relay (for spots)
5. Run +ve cables from relay to fogs
6. Run +ve cables from other relay to spots
7. Run -ve cable from each lamp to a common -ve (not battery?)
8. Tap into original dipped beam cable near the headlamps to provide
trigger for fogs relay
9.Tap into original main beam cable near the headlamps to provide
trigger for spots relay
10. Run cable from other side of each relay to - earth? battery? other?
11. Adjust and secure lamps
12. Secure cables with, er, cable ties etc.

So please shoot do tell me if there are any glaring errors or missing steps in that. Advice on what thickness cable to use for these 55w lamps would be good too. Any other advice on the subject would be appreciated.

Cheers

Don't whatever you do forget an in-line fuse fitted as close as you can manage to the battery (for the + feeds to the relays). Make sure the wires can't rub on anything, if necessary use sheathing, or tape where they could.

In my experience it's surprisingly hard to find a decent earth so be prepared to run a wire back from the negative of the relays and the lights to somewhere sound - look for existing earthing points.

If you were nearer kendal Id do it for you, free of charge u just bring the bits with you

u could have an aux fuse panel like mine that has a negative busbar that gets over finding a good earth as the aux panel is earthed directly from the battery. The beauty of this set up is you only need connect to the battery once. After that any extra electrical components u want to add such as gps, spots, fogs can be connected directly to the aux fuse panel.

Crikey yes, that's a good point. Have to grab hold of some of them.

Righty-ho!

just trying to help a fellow tosser........good luck. If you want to do it right make sure you crimp the terminals properly, heat shrink tubing is great to get the oem look and does protect the connections, if you are going to use the connection on the back of the dipped beam use a piggy back connector...dont go cutting cables as there is no need.

Happy cabling.....have fun

bit more info here regarding cable size etc
