Auto Switch Off

I've just found the secret feature on my '07 1200.

I was riding along testing the Remus can i'd just installed. I was going about 65 and went to overtake the Range Rover Sport just in front.

It was quite windy today.

I opened her up and roared past the rich woman, only to experience total power failure!

At this stage i feared the worst - thinking back to 'Flash o the gaps' Fuel Pump Controller antics in Germany!

Looking down i realised there was not much happening on the dash!

Just managed to crawl to the inside and park up.

I didn't think it was possible for the ignition to switch itself off whatever the conditions. Is this a secret feature not explained whilst buying the bike!

From now on the key fob will be firmly wedged to stop this hapening in the future.

Not quite sure as to what you mean here Stevo. Are you saying that the Ignition Key turned it,s self to the "off" position. If so, what do you think was the cause.

Mike, that's exactly what i'm saying!

At the time it was a little worrying to say the least.

All i can put it down to was wind catching the key fob. Must of been freakish circumstances as this hasn't happened in 13K's worth of riding in all weather conditions.

From now on i'll be tucking the key fob under the bars.

Hmm - I saw a Range Rover Sport in Stowmarket at 5pm, I wonder if it was the same one.

A mate of mine, who helped get me started in biking, taught me to use a couple of tabs of velcro on the fob and the headstock, to stop it blowing around and to prevent this happening. Now, I just keep a clip on my keys and I detach the fob from the ignition key, while I'm riding

This is something that's been reported quite a few times..there was a thread about it recently.

It'll only happen the once- you won't forget to check it next time

Try getting a little key purse thing, then once turned on, wedge it so the keys are secure- it'll protect the yoke for one thing and stop the keys flapping around and turning it off

(I've always tucked mine under a HG Tuareg bar bag which is ideal for sunglasses/sweets/odds and sods)

I had that happen twice in quick succession. I think I was being a bit lazy with how I was turning the key. Now I take more care!
