Where have you boys put your autocom on the gsa... just about to fit mine :nenau

Under the seat. Don't put it in a plastic bag like some do - this will cause condensation.

Tiewrapped onto the manual holder, which is bolted onto the rear of the tank / airbox. Once you take the seat off it'll be obvious. Hopefully :)

yep mine was there too, perfect fit and didnt get bothered by the wet.... too much!

I could tell you where to shove it......! Why chit chat on a bike instead of enjoying the ride?
:augie

Like most people I've fixed mine to the manual bracket. I used heavy duty velcro, which also gives some padding and overcomes the protruding screw for the bracket, as well as the rubber band for holding the manual (zip-tied on the last bike). The smaller box velcroed to the tank above the Autocomm box is the thing that translates from the Garmin 2820 to the Autocom.
All works fine, though Autocom do not recommend putting them here as they are more exposed to water penetration and may pick up interference from the coils - though mine and many others' units survive perfectly well in this position and it leaves to tool tray available for whatever you can fit into it - not a lot (and probably the biggest let down on the bike - cr4p 'tool kit' and no space to stash anything meaningful under the seat).

Mine.....I cut a couple of slits in the plastic tray to take the velcro strap that holds the Autocom unit in place.
Pillion headset lead sits out the way under the pillion seat and rider lead tucks in the side of the battery tray.
Of course you loose space for the tool kit (for what it's worth)

Thanks a lot guys.. life's a lot easier with the pics...:thumb

Kinda like the idea of keeping the tools handy so I'll try the bracket on the tank and if I get any problems from the coils switch it for the tool box :thumb

Pardon my ignorance (I don't have a 1200GS), but I thought the coils were built into the plug caps and therefore a long way from the area of the battery. Or am I wrong and that only applies to the 1100/1150 range ?

I suppose you could get interference from the fuel pump, Brake Servo pump and other electronics in that area but nothing high frequency I'd have thought.

I wait to be corrected.

I do know that placing a 'ground loop isolator' up against the battery introduces a whole bunch of noise into the Autocom system... move it away even a half inch and the noise fades away... And a GLI is designed to filter out the noise from your audio systems... (Autocom sell a GLI under another name)

I suspect that perhaps the system doesn't protect the battery from the noise generated by the coils... (and the battery doesn't dampen it all, as we are used to seeing in some systems...)

Don't know the real answer, I'm just repeating what Autocom told me when they fitted originally it (at their works) to my previous 1200GS. They insisted on putting it all in the tool tray for the reasons I stated. Later I got fed up with having no tool/lock space, so I moved it to the manual bracket - where it worked fine. When I traded the GS for a GSA I fitted it myself and put it on the manual bracket as shown above. I also took both the live and ground from the underseat socket - another thing that Autocom don't recommend as they say (probably rightly) that taking the ground direct from the battery terminal is better.
Anyway, it works fine where it is. I don't point a jetwash at it and I can fit a small tool selection or lock under the seat.
